A old friend called me to come pick up this 1965 Skylark convertible. To my surprise the car was loaded with options so brought it home.I posted it here on parts for sale because car is in VERY rough shape as far as rust and in my opinion not worthy of restoration -GOOD FOR PARTS.Has many good useable parts and what ever is left can be taken in for scrap $$$$ The BAD- Frame is rotted,Trunk and floor pans rotted. Now for the good-has 300 V-8 with 2-spd. powerglide in it(do not know condition of motor and tranny).Power tinted windows, tilt wheel(works smoothly)console shifter,ALL SEATS are to rough condition to use but has PW driver seat (I have not checked under seat yet to see Pw. unit condition or is useable??)conv. top frame -header bow is a bit rusty rest is fine, conv. pump and cylinders still in car., driver side wheelwell molding(front and back nice)outside door chrome and 1/4 glass chrome -nice,conv. trim decent, very nice SOLID hood with nice letters,2- core supports rust free, nice Blue pass. fender, solid battery tray, dash pad not cracked up and looked nice, dash and cluster intact.I am sure there are some other odds and ends I am not mentioning.I would like to get $900 for whole car and will wait for a little while to see if any interest if not I will dismantle car for all the parts.Only thing I will take off of car is the 2-front tires and rims (tires have good tread and rims are not to rusty and may clean up)I will replace with some rollers.Car is in Flint,Michigan. Here are some pictures
If you end up parting it out, I'd be very interested in the complete power window setup, ie: switches, motors, regulators, wiring etc., etc. I might also have interest in the power seat, if it's in usable condition. It also has a GS fender on the pass side too! Could it be a GS???
It appears that has a GS nose on it. If the battery tray is on the driver-side,i would be interested in it. I am also interested in the dash pad if its not or brittle cracked and still pliable. Wacko
Parking light buckets and lenses... complete headlight wiring harness...arm rest bases...and prolly more. I owe someone these parts so I will pay you for them and ship these items direct to Bill in MD. Also I would like all 4 wheelwell trims sent here. Again there will prolly be more but this is a start. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
If you end up parting, I'll get in line for: 1.power seat setup 2.exterior trim at the top of doors, base of the side windows... 4 pieces total 3.both fender portholes Jeff ~
My friend said he thought it was a GS -but when I lifted the hood and seen the small block I told him it was not-however maybe someone switched out the big block for the small block just to have a running car???.I do not know how to tell if it is a GS or not but here are some more pictures of things I found in the car and of cowl tag and engine compartm.I flipped power bucket seat over and it is all there but does have a lot of rust.Dash pad is not cracked but does not feel very pliable.1/4 panel has holes that match up to GRAND SPORT emblem.Pass side wheelwell moldings pretty twisted up in back -pass. front not as bad, driver sides very nice.Grill emblem is in very nice condition (not pitted, chrome nice, and paint just faded) 810 397-8910
Looks like a Gran Sport to me - battery tray is in the right spot anyway. I wouldnt part it too quick.
Easiest way to tell if it is an original GS is by the steering column. On a GS the flange that bolts to the "rag-joint" is splined and removable, on a regular Skylark it is permanently attached to the shaft.
Here's a partial trim tag breakdown: Group 2 X - ST 300 Automatic Transmission G - Long Console P - Back up Lights Group 3 H - Belt Reveal Molding Group 4 F - Exterior Remote Mirror S - Unknown to us at this time, unless someone has decoded it Group 5 W - Seat Belts With Retractors.
Mike, I'll jump in line for the whole car. Would you be willing to trailer it to me for a cost of course? I'm in Plainfield, IL 60586. Also I see a shifter on the floor is that a column shift tilt or truly a floor shift column? Also 64 Skylark tilt columns rag joint flanges are splined and removable. I don't think that is GS specific on tilt columns for 64-65. Thanks, Brian
Sorry about the flange issue, I thought they were specific to the GS with the removable flange to clear the exhaust header. But, that battery tray is either off a GS or someone took it out of an Olds Cutlass and put it in a Buick. It would be interesting to see the size of the rear wheel bearings. Not definitive, but interesting. Hum..... I have a complete 65 Gran Sport 401 and ST300 sitting in my garage, could have come from that car...... The engine came from back east somewhere..... wouldn't that would be an interesting story?
