What happened to your $75 rechroming!?!?!? (Re: 1965 skylark hood ornament)

Dear Ken, 1989GTA, and V-8 Buick detail freaks,

Sorry Ken for hijacking this thread a little but I've gotta know.

[IMG]What do ya' mean you want this hood ornament!?!?!

In my parts wanted thread you say:

If you already have a beautiful 1965 Buick hood ornament already - why would need another one?

The reason I'm asking is because I do worry about one aspect of your rechroming scheme. If you rechrome the area where you are going to apply paint, that paint is not going to adhere very well.

So fess up, is that the reason?

    Cuz I'm very curious!! :Brow:

The person who did this for me sells Cadillac restoration parts. He also re-does emblems etc as part of his work and etches the areas that are to be repainted. I have not put the emblem on the car yet but the paint seems to be holding up very nicely. The reason for the puchase is for a back-up unit as people tend to steel and or break these things. So if no one else is interested I am for that reason.

Who is this miracle worker!?!?? (Re: 1965 skylark hood ornament)

    Dear 1989GTA and 1965 V-8 Buick fans,

First, further apologies to Ken for a further detour on this thread.

So you just sent your old hood ornament to this fellow and for $75 you got it rechromed and repainted!! If it isn't some national security secret, could you perhaps share the name of this miracle worker? I just might have some business for him!!

    Yup, that's a reason I can understand. . . . ItT'ain't easy to care for a classic car no-mor' :(

Thanks for the helpful info! :TU:

SOLD!! (Re: 1965 skylark hood ornament)

Dear Ken, 1989GTA, and fans of 1965 V-8 Buicks,

It turns out that my hopes to my trusty wagon's own hood ornament rechromed and restored were dashed on account of a certain bit of automobile snobbery. It seems that the restorer who did 1989GTA hood ornament will no longer "lower his standards" to work on anything but Cadillac emblems . . . . . .

[IMG] It's discrimination I tell ya' !!

I looked to see if there were other emblems restorers and I sure couldn't find anybody. :Do No:

So I've decided to take the only remaining option and buy this hood ornament from Ken and repaint the Tri-Shield colors myself.

I just sent Ken a payment via Paypal, so this hood ornament is headed to a new hood! :)

    Cheers, Edouard :beer
