Hey guys. Can anyone tell me if a 66 Skylark ignition switch with the 66 key and tumbler sleeve will work on a 65 Skylark. The 66 switch and sleeve is obtainable new. Thanks,John
I don’t know if they will fit the same but if they follow the same as the 68-72 cars then the key blanks would be different. On the 68-72 cars each year car used a different lettered key black and lock assembly. Duane
Just looked in my Buick parts book. They are different part numbers. The '65 switch is Group 2.188, P/N 1116663. The '66 switch is Group 2.188, P/N 111664. Loren@65GS.com
I realize part #s are different. The 66 switch with 66 key cylinder may plug in and work. Wonder if anyone has used this?
Not exactly sure but I did change my (65) ignition switch and had to replace the female plug in the harness which was different. I got a good used 65 switch from Carmen. But my original tumbler was destroyed when the car was sand blasted so it had to be replaced.
Hi John, The ignition switch for your 65 is available on RockAuto. One is $12.00 and one is $30.00. Bought a spare last year from there.
Hello John, I just had the same problem. I have to buy a new ignition switch. Now here's the problem. The original tumbler has a tiny 1/2 moon with a small slit and everywhere I look the only switches I find have just a large slit. This means the tumbler will not fit all the way down in the switch. Also the tumbler will not turn the switch. I was wondering if you can look at the spare you bought from rock has the 1/2 moon with a small slit as so I can order the same one. Thank you so much. I cant drive the car .lol
