My book says 44467 is correct for both Skylark and Gran Sport.

I have a book that says 44667 is for a GS.
    and 44467 is the skylark
I'm not trying to make waves, just wondering if it's correct!

Either way, the car is likely worth what he's asking. I sure wouldn't mind owning one, though I'd prefer a wagon in that vintage. Which I can't afford, either.

Devon is correct. 65 gs vin code is the same as a skylark. No special designation till 66.

Guess we'll need a '65 expert to chime in. Both of my Buick Motor Division body and parts books do not list the 44667 VIN for GS until 1966. I believe the GS was simply an option for Skylark in '65, thus no unique series number.

  7. in 65 the GS does not have it's own V.I.N designation. 66 was the first year the GS was it's own model. I have owned many of each and i know this to be a fact

I can see why it's confusing... YearOne says that a 1965 GS is: 44467* while

  9. Jeff, your source is wrong. common mistake in literature such as year one catalog and places similar to that.
check out this direct copy of GM production figures for 1965 no gransport model shown as a seperate model

It's not really "my source"... I was just curious when I read this thread so I Googled and found conflicting info... including posts right here in V8 :puzzled:

I reckon that the copy referenced on TeamBuick is the correct info.

    No special VIN is correct.
Notice your chart would suggest that there was a 64 Skylark GS.
If you doubt it, go to 65GS.com

Tricky business to confirm a 65GS.

I copied that "chart" from right here on V8 :bla: hence my comment in my 1st post... about how it's easy to get confused about this info. I know nothing about GS's and I never meant for it to be an answer, but rather to confirm with the OP that there are many sources of incorrect/conflicting info out there.

    Sorry for the confusion

I got that you were showing how confused it is, my comment about the 64 being on the chart was just further showing how unreliable the available information can be.

The site 65GS.com is a great source for the car. They live the one year and one model over there.
I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the very car this post is about is either known, or being discussed over there.

My only internet access at this time is my phone or I would check.

65 GS was a 1/2 year run, they started making them about Jan of 65. They used all the same designation as the other cars they were built on.

Excellent information and precisely why this website is the best!!
Also 65GS.com is very good too
    Thanks for all the info!!

Only one engine photo that does not show battery location. The 65 GS battery was mounted on the driver side vs passenger side for Skylarks. I would ask for that photo before proceeding. There are other clues that can be found on 65gs.com.

I am on 65 GS.com, but haven't seen that car discussed. Doesn't mean nobody knows about it though.

This is my car. Battery location is on drivers side where it should be. Could only put 24 pics on and had to be selective. Registered with GS registry when I bought it from Mike who I met on this site a few years back. It's authentic

Glad to see you post here.:TU: I was not questioning your cars authenticity, rather suggesting what to look for under the hood. As you probably know, it's important to verify a 65 GS.

Good luck with your sale, as I wish I could afford to add yours to my garage.:beer

I would love for somebody on here to get it. I tried to convince Mike that he needed to own it again, but he's got more than he needs right now.
It's a fine example, but I have too many cars. Also a new 16 year old driver that I had to buy a car for plus a son going to private college in the fall. I hope these kids appreciate our sacrifices and don't stick us in nursing homes later!
