Ted, this has you painted all over it! Triple black dual quad 425 4 speed? You're gonna have to make room, you know...:TU:
Haha, as soon as I saw this that was my first thought as well, right up Teds alley! Hey Ted, if you need to make room, I'll gladly store that beautiful burgundy dual quad 4 speed 'cat for you!! Just gotta leave me a set of keys...
That is one rare Wildcat. With so little written about Wildcats equipped like this car, one has to wonder how this car would have performed against similarly equipped 1965 contemporaries like an Impala SS 409 4-spd, a Pontiac Grand Prix 421 4-spd or a Ford Galaxie 500 406 4-spd from back in the day??? I know Buick was awfully proud of its aluminum finned drum brakes at that time, but good gosh, man ... that size of car and power might have made for a reason to have extra underwear in the glove box.
3.23 or 3.42..... The 3.23 was standard in the 3 speed manual '66 Wildcat. A 3.42 was included in the 'GS' versions of Rivieras and '66 Wildcats. There are 2.78, 3.07, 3.23, 3.42. and 3.91 gear sets shown in the '66 parts book. Cool car, wish I had the space and time for it!:TU:
Question. What is the spring, the large, double, adjustable tension spring, mounted to the firewall near the master cylinder? I can't figure it out. And, is that a Ford solenoid on the driver inner fender? Mike
In 1965 at YORK US 30 Dragway , a White 65 Wildcat conv with 425 2x4's , 4 spd raced . That was 50 years ago and I remember it because I race him with my 65 Riviera 401 ( 2x4's and 425 cam added ). It was even at the quarter and my riv ran 15. teens all the time. Bill
4-Speed Wildcats got a 3.42:1 rear gear- the 9 3/8 ring gear 65 was the last year the rear was built as a removable 3rd member. Apparently there were 2 posi carrier designs- I've had 3.42 posi's from a Riviera I'll just call that one a regular duty, then the heavy duty one for 4-speeds (and 3.91:1 gear sets)
When I was retrieving this car: Which is a dual quad 4-speed white convert- with white top- the owner had a picture of the local dragstrip back in the day and there is a 65 Wildcat convertible there - black top - in the background of the photo. That was a strip near Bucks County PA. Ted
Could be Vargo Dragway in Bedminster. Operated from 1960-69. I wasn't there during it's operation, but now they have an annual show every November. Ted, did he race your car? York is about 2 hours from here, so there's a decent chance it's the same one.
WOW, 2 65 Wildcat conv 425 2x4 4 spd cars in central pa. both white. I do remember that the drive was very tail and had a big mouth about how fast the car was . Bill
Mine ended up there but the car came with a dealer trim from Al Wills Buick in Longmont, Colorado. I'm not sure if they go together or not. The couple that owned the car had purchased in 1981 or so. :TU:
