I have a pic of a build sheet that has 'X' for the 300 trans and 'Z' for the 'Super Turbo' trans. Maybe the pic was actually for a '67? 'ZB' is on all 2 of my Baltimore built 66's, and also on one I parted. All were automatic, buckets and console cars. One has ZBC, for which the 'C' is for the beltline trim (below side windows). I have one pic of a post car with a ZA code. Looking at the build sheet under the rear seat, there 1s a 2X code but no Z or B. ??? Kansas and Flint built cars do have a 2X, so that may be for the 2 speed auto. Maybe Baltimore cars used different codes???? Would be nice to hear from other Baltimore-built 66 GS owners so we could figure this out.
I have seen a couple of guys in the past ask about ZBC code and one had the answer, the ZB code on my cowl tag is just like it is printed on the cowl tag ZB no space between the letters. My Kansas 66 GS has the 2X on it as well for the trans. Thanks for your help will can any one else pitch in?
Walt/Guys, The codes are listed by group number. If you look on the cowl tag the codes for the first group will not have a number in front of them, but the later codes have the number......................therefore if you have codes from the first 3 groups the codes will appear like this on the cowl tag ZB 2AB 3D .................or something like that. This decodes as; Group 1 codes "1Z & 1B" Group 2 codes "2A & 2B" Group 3 codes "3D" At one time I had almost all the codes figured out for the 65-67 Skylark/GS cars because I intended to decode them for people. I remember freaking one guy out by telling him all the options he had on his car just by going down my list............and letting him know that the tilt-wheel option was added "after production." (by a previous owner) The other thing to remember is many of these "Fisher Body" option codes were dependent on body style numbers, so the codes off a Chevy A-body etc. may or may not be the same. I remember it took a lot of cross-referencing to figure all this out. Duane PS. I have no idea where I even put any of this info.
The issue is that Baltimore didn't stamp the group number, just the letter. Z is found in groups 2, 4, and 5. B is found in groups 2 and 3. C is found in groups 2, 3, and 4. So how do you decide which group the letter belongs to?
Send a message to member "THEGSX" aka Jimmy Shiels. I am sure he can tell you everything you need to know about your car. He also has a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/1966-Buick-GS-Registry/212035278833733
