Im the cousin. Good call Joe, this site is jammed with info....and being a newcomer, i apologize in advance for asking so many questions. Im still not sure how to find out if its a true GS. I got it from the original owner whos a bit senile, but his son insists that he bought it brand new in 66 as a true GS. (was not a selling tool of his, though) In his senile state, he had some hack paint the car in his garage (even though it hadnt been on the road for 10 yrs) and one side has NO emblems. The other side has the GS emblem (in incorrect order), and there are holes in the fender. 1. There is NO emblem on the interior, but the wood inserts seems to have been replaced. 2. It DOES have the rare OEM wood racing wheel only available to the GS (which few people seem to know of) 3. It does NOT have aluminum finned valve covers 4. It Does have the split front console seats (which are more common in the GS model) 5. There is no paperwork on the car (although his son promised to send it to me when he comes across it during their move) Fact is, im really happy with the car either way. there isnt a speck of rust anywhere, and the interior is PERFECT......including the carpets!!...58K original miles by original owner, all parts and trim are there and in great shape....And the car has a great story. But, i would like to find out anyway....I just dont know how.
Nice find! Those cars have some STYLE! GS package on the Riv included a 3.42 rear. Because of that, the engine pulleys were a slightly different diameter than the standard Riv. GS also had a faster ratio steering box. Might not be a real GS, but it sure is a cool car!:beers2:
How come I never find barn cars! My favorite big car of all time is the 66 Riv. So Anglelo I am going to hate you for 10 seconds. Welcome to the board and get that thing shined up and on the road.
Hey Cousin Angelo - Welcome to v8buick ! :beer :TU: Check out the Riviera Owners Association (ROA) at www.rivowners.org, you can get some more info on '66 Rivieras, or any other Riviera at that website !
One of the best looking Buicks ever! I still can't believe Frank sold that car! I would have kept it forever.
Ok, due to popular demand, I've posted the entire story w/ pics on a new thread "Urban Barn Find" in Members rides. Check it out and enjoy!
