Back around 2001 Car Craft Magazine had a 1966 GS/Gran Sport Convertible 4 speed project car. Do you remember it? What issues had articles on it? Thanks! boway
Check with Sean (paintworks is his screen name) he owns that car now and probably has the information on which issues had the stories on the car.
The articles used to be on the Car Craft site, but it looks like they're now on the Hot Rod site and not in their original format. Here's the one on the Hurst 4 speed shifter install: http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/interior-electrical/116-0111-installing-hurst-transmission-shifter/ I bought that trans from Tony!, he was a board member back then. I probably have those issues.....somewhere.
That is back when I used to love that mag. I used to enjoy Tony's articles quite a bit. I was disappointed when he and that car disappeared.
Walt, I bought the car from Tony. Met him in Milwaukee at one point but the car was in Burbank, Cali. I prob'ly have copies of the articles. There was a good one on Praise brake shoes, and the big adventure when they drove the car from Milwaukee to LA. I got to fix all the dash wiring problems mentioned in that article.... Pat
Hey Guys, Thanks for your replies! I send an e-mail to Sean at Paintworks yesterday, no reply yet. I found this post by him here on V8 Buick. (http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?152683-1966-GS-Convertible-4-speed-CarCraft-car&highlight=) It shows a page of the October 2001 issue of the road trip. Also tells of a picture at carsinbarns.com. (http://www.carsinbarns.com/Bowties In Barns/pg2.html) This is the brake issue but I think Hot Rod Network has all of their dates wrong. (http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/chassis-suspension/ccrp-0110-1966-buick-gs-drum-brake-system/) Carb issue. (http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/57178/) The shifter issue that Walt posted. (http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/interior-electrical/116-0111-installing-hurst-transmission-shifter/) I think the time line goes like this: 2001 Sept Carb 2001 Oct Road Trip 2001 ? Brakes 2001 ? Shifter So only four issues, does anyone know of more? And Tony Nausieda is a Investment Manager at GM Ventures in Detroit. https://www.linkedin.com/pub/tony-nausieda/12/58a/b67
I don't think there were more than 3 or 4 articles that Tony wrote about the car. Here's a pic after I had in back in Mass.
they did a cam swap and ran it on a dyno. It was also part of an article where the entire staff was at the strip. . There was a picture of it going down the track with a caption mentioning mid 16s, and making fun of Tony for shifting like a girl.
Just came across this post, and wow, I am flattered that people are still asking about the old Buick. Yes, I bought this car from the original owner, a retired dentist in Tarzana, CA, for $900 back in 1996 when I was a freshman in college. The picture on the carsinbarns.com site is exactly how I found it. Brought it back to Claremont, CA using a tow bar attached to my Land Cruiser which is a story in itself. I rebuilt the original 401 mostly stock, adding only a Poston cam, adjustable pushrods, and a spreadbore '66 intake with a 425ci Q-Jet. The car a lot of fun but was always slower than I expected and I think it finally ran 15-teens at Carlsbad (I can already hear the Nailhead guys sighing ). I owned the car for about 6 years and really enjoyed it, but had to downsize when I went to graduate school. Still have a bunch of other cars and am currently working in Detroit, at GM. Tony
Ha!! Somehow I missed this post from way back. Well, here is the car now. Almost complete. It will be at the 2022 GS Nationals!!
Very cool. Makes me want to dig up the photos of my trip around the US (and side trip to Mexico) in my GS cal car. Oh to be young and dumb and ...
