I have a 1969 GS400 with the original rear end (open 2.93), but it is noisy and needs a rebuild. I have purchased a original 1967 GTO 10 bolt (open, 2.56), supposed to be in good shape but seems to have some play and probably needs a rebuild also (paid $80, complete). I would like to rebuild one of these rears with an Eaton posi and 3.55 gear ratio, for street use and maybe some fun at the dragstrip.
    My questions are as follows:
Which one of these rears is cheaper to build? Do all parts interchange, or just some of the parts?
What are the other differences between these, and advantages/disadvantages of each?
If I bolt in the 1967 rear into 69, will I lose any tire clearance (right now I have 235/60/15 in rear, but will go up to 255 as soon as these are burned off).

Thanks in advance to anyone who can share info...

I have always been told that the 67 rear ends were an inch or so narrower than the 68 and later housings. I would have no idea on the cost of parts.
