I have a pair of 6x9s that I'm installing. I already mounted one of them to the back seat where the grill is, but how do I install the other 6x9 at the dash? Do I have to take the dash out along with the console?

Johnny - Front speakers in a 2nd gen. Riv. are 4x10, so the 6x9 may not fit in the front dash, without some serious mods ? :Do No:

Randy, thanks for the info. I wanted to mount the 6x9s on the rear deck but the rear defrost motor is there. Now I'm debating whether or not I should remove it just so I can install the speakers

I just put 2-6X9's in my 69 wildcat but the defrost blower was not an issue. You may be able to wire the stereo to play through one 6X9 in the back. I also put 2 -4" midbase(only) in the front center instead of the factory 4X8 then i installed remote satelite tweeters on the front pillars that where wired to the 4" front. A bazuka tube sub in the trunk (for alittle more kick) and you'll have great sound. Lower that Riv, a set of 22's and your hat on backwards and you'll be all set for cruisin the strip bro.....

HAHA, subs in the trunk, and the hat on backwards yes, but not 22's! I had 20 inch 100 spokes on when I bought the car and I didnt like the ride. I felt every bump on the road, I think I even felt an ant! haha But other than that Im thumbs up with everything else. Thanks bro

I was just being wierd, but the sound is great and i do have 15" rims on the cat because our roads here are terrible and so the rides important for me as well, good luck with the install. If you do put 2-4" in the center you can use a piece of 3/4" plywood to mount the 4" into, just use the stock 4X10 speaker as a template and some flat bar bent in an s shape to hold the speaker tight to the dash as the stock one was? I used pressure treated in case the windshield leaks the wood won't rot....actually its all i had but MDF would be easier to work with.

I beseech you to reconsider before cutting up that package tray! Reasons:
1: there are not a lot (almost none) of 2nd gen riv package trays out there.
2: it looks better to not have aftermarket speakers everywhere in any car.
3: you can make the factory speaker positions sound just as good.
In my 68, I have a 4x10 and 6x9 in the factory spots, two 5.25(?) in the kick panels, a sub in the trunk, and a ****-load of dynamat. Its plenty loud, louder than my 2.5 side pipes. The head units under the dash, so with the ashtray open, all you see is the factory am box. The only drawback is fading and balance arent quite the same with 3 up front and one in back.
Yardleys system (and car) are legendary, but I couldnt stomach cutting holes in a 40 year-old deck and door panels.
    Think about it.
And if you do put speakers back there, go with 9 drivers.
    Good luck!
    :beers2:

I mounted my 6x9's on a board behind the back seat. That provide the midrange and the volume. Then I made up a plate for 2 small co-axial speakers to fit in the grille in the back seat, as well as the front speaker up front. That provides crystal clear sound that can be heard. A bass tube mounted under the rear deck makes the deep bass.........and a curtain behind all this hides this junk from view when I show off my detailed trunk area.

And I pump the sound from my stock stereo radio into a 160w amp, under the deck as well. I use a "FM MODULATOR" to interface a portable CD player or mp3 player to the system if I prefer that instead of the radio. You'd be truly amazed at how good this setup actually sounds, and how loud and clear it plays. I'll see if I can find photos to post if you guys would like to see them. :)

I hacked my old '66 for speakers......DON'T DO IT! Yoiu really have to cut! I ruined a few package trays in the attempt, but that was a long time ago when the new cars still had carbs on them.
