THIS WAS BACK FROM WHEN WE ALL TRIED TO GET RICHMOND TO BUILD THE GEARS. THIS IS HAPPENING . GEARS WILL BE IN STOCK 12 WEEKS FROM NOW. EARLY ORDERS GET THE AGREED PRICE FOR THE EARLIER EMAILS. NO OHTER GEARS COMPANY SUPPORTS YOUR 68-70 REAR. THESE ARE THE ONLY GEARS ON THE MARKET. ONLY 30 SETS IF THEY GO FAST MORE MAY BE DESIDED TO BE MADE. IT IS IN THE HANDS OF YOU THE BUICK OWNERS TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. GOOD LUCK. JIM

Ok Guys, Remember when you all were ready to buy 3.42 gears for your 1968 -1970 Buicks and GS??? HERE THEY ARE!!!

Brad Durest at Fab craft in Texas is going to finally make this happen. He is going to make 30 sets. 399.00 for a set. all the design and pencil pushing is done. the metal is on order and will be sent to the manufacture for forging, then off to be cut after that. These gears are going to be made in Wisconsin and will be an ALL AMERICAN USA product so you can feel your money is going to a good cause...USA American workers. Gears are forged from 8620 top quality material. :dollar:

This is also one of the big reason for going through him also.:beers2:

So all you need to do to place an order is call Fabcraft 1 800 208 8242 and ask to place an order for the 3.42 Buick gears 1968-1970. He takes all major credit cards (Visa, Master card, etc.) You can either pay in full or 50% down if that makes you feel a bit more comfortable.

Time frame. 6 weeks for tooling and 6 weeks for actually making them. So you have 3 monthes to pay the extra 50%.

Early orders will get the 399.00 price after they are made the price will go up a bit...to like 429.00. Obviously tieing up that much money costs money so it has to be made up some where.... So best for everyone to get in and fill the orders...there are only 30 so first come first serve.

Reminder: I would say if this does not go over well I would never count on any other gear ratios ever emerging. SO lets make good on our word as Brad has on his.

Quality: I will personally set up a set before they ship to be sure they are up to snuff. I will also give discounts on Auburn units to go with these gears also. 369.00 and they will be ready for your gears to bolt right up.

Questions: When and if you call Fab Craft 1 (800) 208 8242 Brad wil lbe able to answer all the technical forging questions on the gears and set-up. I Jim Mitschke (J D Race and Restoration) will be more than happy to guide through most on the questions also and set-up of your gear sets. We will not leave customers just wondering. We are here for your support.

I am truely glad we could make all this work and hope we have future ventures with this much success. This will be perfect timing for a christmas gift and you will have all winter to gert the rear built and ready for next seasons racing or crusing.

Best wish and good luck on a set of gears.

    Nice job Jim.:TU:
Thanks for making this happen for us. I have a question before I call and order. These will fit an original carrier that has 2.93's correct?

Todd I do believe the 2.93 is a 2 series carrier. This is how the 1968 -1970 buick 8.2 carrier breaks in ratios

    2.56-2.93 are 2 series
    3.23-3.42 are 3 series
    3.64- up are 4 series

Now in pontiac 8.2 the series breaks are different again

    2.56-2.78
    2.93-3.23
    3.36-up

So here is what it comes to:

to use these gears you will need a 3.23-3.42 ORIGINAL BUICK 1968-1970 CARRIER... OR
YOU WILL NEED A AFTER MARKET PONTIAC 8.2 2.93-3.23 POSI UNIT AND MODIFY THE RING GEAR BOLT HOLES LARGER (I DO THIS FOR FREE WHEN YOU BUY UNITS FROM ME.)
OR.... YOU CAN USE THE 2.56-2.93 BUICK 2 SERIES UNIT WITH A 8.5 SPACER AND BOLT KIT WHICH I ALSO SELL AND CAN BE BOUGHT FROM OTHER SPEED SHOPS.

So Todd you can use th e3.42 gears on the 2.93 carrier but only with a spacer kit.

I know this is some what difficult to underdtand if you do not do rear diffs, But the Buick rear from 1968 -1970 is in a league of it's own. We do/are going to have these gears soon. NO one ever thought of the buick as much of a muscle car and was never support as such. there are a whole bunch of other people that will need thanking and I will try to make a list... People that let us borrow exact originals or the 3.42 gears to Buick members that got the attention and ball rolling to all of you ... who will hopefully help the gear making continue with your orders. I am sure I will buy a few also I have a few housing just waiting for gears.... Good luck in getting your set.

Remember there are only 30 sets being produced at this time. Could never happen again ...but lets hope not. :Do No:

So, if I understand correctly, these gears will work in my '70 Lesabre (open diff, not sure of the ratio, stock high 2s, i thing) with a spacer and bolt kit?

Would i be able to convert later to a posi if I wanted to?

If so, I am very interested.
    Shane.

No I doubt that unless Lesabre uses the same 8.2 10 bolt rear as skylark...And i highly doubt that. Jim

Ok guys I hope some of the people that were into this whole deal are ordering gears. I would hope we would keep our word on the deal... There are others like 9 3/8" rears that might want a set built too. That will all be moot if this one fails. I have not talked with Brad yet so will see.

Thanks for the support if you did buy. :kodak:

call me if you have any questions PM for a phone number or call Brads 1800 # at 1 (800) 208 8242 FABCRAFT METALWORKS

remember these 3.42 ratio gears fit 1968-1970 rear only and will fit the original and aftermarket posi units from Aubrun gear. Most important they are American made all the way through the process. :beer
