i have a1969 buick g/s ,it has 15 inch ralleye wheels on it.is this correct for this year.i have always been confused about what years had 15 & what years had 14.also which makes a true ralleye wheel the width?i know i have some other wheels that came off a regular skylark & they look the same but are not as wide.also at one of the car shows locally a guy has a g/s 400.it has beauty rings on it.he said they were original to the car because they were on ther when he bought it from the original owner.were beauty rings a option or original equip. thanks tom

Looking at the order sheet GS350 and 400, only 14" was available. 15" was on the larger cars.

    Whitewall Tires 7.75 X14
    Fiberglass Belted Whitewall F78-14
    Oversizes Fiberglass Belted G78-14
    Fiberglass Belted Red Lines F70-14

The wheels. All GS wheels were 14 X 6 and coded JJ:

    Deluxe Wheel Covers
    Chrome Plated Wheels
    Wire Wheel Covers
    Super Sport Wheels

Of these the Buick Chrome is what you see most. The Super sport looked like the chrome ones only painted and did have the beauty rings. The center section was a Ribbed Tri sheild cap. Sorry the docs I have have bad pictures.

    Anyone have pictures?

Rich- I would suggest a search on the rims... should get clear pics. I know that each set has been for sale on this board one time or another...

i went out & got the numbers off the wheels i have on my g/s now.it is 9-09-78 15x7 jj ta 903 mw over a 4 dot.does this mean they are 1978 wheels.does the jj mean they are g/s wheels.i see a lot of the guys on the web are talking about changing there wheels, does this effect the value of the car.ihave a set of 4 wheels off a 1969 skylark car that are 14x6 wheels, are these rally wheels for a 1969 g/s.....thanks tom

'69 GS came stock with 14x6" wheels.

The stamped numbers on the spine of your wheels, ie, 15x7jj do not ID the Buick Rallys as a particular application of Buick rally wheel.
All 4 3/4" bolt pattern 15x7 GM wheels will be stamped on the inside (the spine) with either 15x7jj or 15x7jk. The jj & jk suffixs are the ASAE (American Auto Society of Engineers) wheel lip (design) designation, nothing else. These two letter suffixs do not ID the rally wheel, instead, the two letter ID code stamped on the outer surface of chrome lip is the ID code.

4 3/4" bolt pattern Buick 15x7 Rallys bolt pattern were 1st intoduced for '70 GS useage. For '70 models, there were two different ID codes & 4 3/4" bolt pattern 15x7 Rally designs. This was due to the change from "2 piece" rotors to one piece rotors.

Your '78 dated Buick 15x7 Rallys wheels are the common 15x7's which most likely came off a '78 or '79 LeSabre. Nothing wrong with their common origon, many of us hunt & hunt for very nice plated originals of this design, & upon sale, they nearly always end up on earlier GS's & Skylarks.

    Got Posi?
