Hello everyone, Did alot of reading lately about tire sizes. I am looking to put the widest tire I can under my 69 GS. From what I understand is that 245 60 15 is probably the biggest. I am not going to "roll" or "cut" or make any modifications to make this happen! Just wanted to get educated from somebody that has already gone through this issue. I already have 15x7 rims and that is the way that they are going to stay. Please dont tell me to go with a wider rim with bigger backspacing. This is a stock application and just looking for some feedback on my choices! My buddy put 225 70 15 under his, and was just hoping to sneak a little bit wider under her. I would check his car too see the clearance in the quarter but car is long gone. Thanks in advance for anyones suggestions! Just dont wanna get the wrong size.:dollar: Thanks again, Dave
I am running 245's on my 69 without any problems 15x7 stock rims. You might be able to fit 255's not too sure. I did run 275/60/ 15 on the same rims but I had to trim the wheel lips to the mounting screws.
Just what I needed to hear Dave! Thank You. No reason to push it for a little extra tire. I know I said the "LARGEST" but you have to draw the line somewhere, especially since she is NOT a race car. Thanks again!
I got my original 14s stacked in the garage for safe keeping...running 15 x 7s up front 15 x 8s in rear 245/60/15s all way round its tight in the rear but no trimming or bending , all cars are not created equal.
I've got Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials: 255/60/15s on 15x7 Rallye wheels with no modifications to the wheel well lips. I think a 275 would be close, and depending on how your car sits on the frame, there would be a possibility of needing to cut. In addition, I went with the 255s because you're throwing away gearing with the taller tire. In the case of a 275 vs 255 wide, the difference would be like stepping down from a 3.42 to a 3.31. I'll try to attach a pic.
Thanks to everyone who has replied! I very much appreciate the input. Think I will go with the 245 60 15. Maybe even smaller if it happens to be a good deal on tires. Thanks, Dave
