Can I run a B4B with the stock air cleaner (the HD version with the 14" element) on my Riv, I'd just check the clearance myself but I have the engine out of the car right now. I will be running the correct motor mounts for the 69 as well as I'm having Cars re vulcanize mine.

When you find out let us know as I plan on using the same manifold on my 68 when the time comes to do the engine.

In fact, you'll need a wicked drop-base air cleaner just to be able to run one at all.

If you have the original engine mounts, then NOBODY will revulcanize them. The 69 (at least mine, anyway) did NOT have the interlocking tang and nobody would touch them. If you have interlocking ones then they are the "replacement" version and they don't fit real well (unless Buick chenged over later than December of '69 when my car was made). In fact, the aftermarket mounts made my driver's side of the engine sit about an inch higher than normal so the engine was sitting cocked/tilted in the engine bay.

Even NOS dealer-sourced mounts have tangs as Buick redesigned the mounts not long after with a "one size fits all" mentality.

    I have a B4B with a Holley-type double-pumper and even with a wicked drop-base I had to switch out the K&N filter element from 3 inch to 2 1/2. Still, it's very tight.

All I got to say is CRAP! If the stock air cleaner wont work then theres a pretty good chance that my planed Ram Air up grade to the Riv wont clear the 72 RA cleaner I just bought once the new B4B intake is on and all the hood mods are done. I think I will go Fwd and just see what happens.

Any idea where they are getting it done? Steele Rubber mailed mine back with a note saying they wouldn't do it. I called another place and they said the same thing.

Hi Steve (Rivdrivn). I see you are new here. Welcome! Any plans to be at the BPG at the end of the month?

What mods have you done to your Riv? Any pics? Bench or buckets? Inquiring minds want to know!

  12. Wait. Before you go that route, maybe try the B4B anyway. Not sure how your "HD 14-inch" cleaner would differ from the 14-inch I have on my '69 Riviera (see below) but mine DID fit, at least with my Quadrajet on the B4B.

And so did my stock 11.5" element factory model (non-GS car). No clearance issues whatsoever. Bets off if you're thinking about a Holley or something else. Give it a go and switch back if you have to?

Not sure, we'll see if they have any paperwork with them when I get them. The Buick Farm and Classic Buicks say they can do them too and specify that the process is ONLY for the non safety tab mounts.

interesting....I will be running a Quadrajet for sure, not sure if the 14" is any taller, just wish I would have checked things out before pulling the engine, I don't want to buy the intake if it's not going to work plus I want to paint the engine as a whole before installing and I always paint my intakes red

Oops! Yeah, my experience is with only Holleys on a B4B. Not sure if the Q-Jet is shorter or what. Give it a go and see.

  16. Mine is a 14x3 drop base, which I acquired from another V8B member. It was already painted satin black with the Stage 1 sticker. This size is very common and available through Jegs, Summit, TA, etc. Short of going to a cowl hood or cram induction, I figure it's a good step up from the stock cleaner.

    Yards,
Cars called me Friday saying the rebuilder will not do them because they ARE the locking type....they don't look like it to me but now I have a motor mount crisis. I do not know who the rebuilder is but the mounts are being sent back to me from them......so got a spare correct left mount?

As usual, CARS is full of crap. The mounts can't be revulcanized because they are NOT the locking type. They relayed the message wrong. Insurance and lawyers won't allow non-locking mounts to be revulcanized because if they should ever fail and the throttle becomes stuck wide open they can be sued.

I don't have a spare driver's side mount. You can put on an aftermarket one and pray the engine sits level.

If I ever have to replace mine I'm just going to somehow bolt/weld the 2 halves of the original together and live with the vibration. At least the engine will sit level.

Here's a thought... replace them both. I'm sure your engine will sit one, maybe 2 inches higher than stock, but it should be level.

Yards, I think I'm going to make a solid mount out of 1/4" plate for the time being as I refuse to have the engine sit too high, vibration really is not that bad with 1 solid and 2 rubber mounts, I'm considering doing this to my T-Type too, I'll call you tomorrow night about this
I also PM'd you my cell number, with a 2 1/2 year old running around sometimes I forget to call people

Kurt, two or three years ago TA Performance specifically warned me away from using a solid left motor mount due to the added stress to that side of the block being it's in tension during acceleration.
