It's a good carb...probably could use a few pieces and a resto...I am no carb expert but, if someone wants the real thing, this is it.
hate to be the bearer of bad news but the carb listed is a restamp, the top is wrong and from what i can see the base plate is wrong too.
Okay, if this is true then I got duped...George, this is the carb you and I watched, and I won on eBay a while back. I thought everyone then said it was the real deal? I am really upset about this...this is not good, can you please enlighten me? I do NOT want to rip anyone off, and if I need to change my listing then I will, but I need to be sure. Thanks, Mike
As far as the top, Im going to guess that its supposed to have the bowl vent attached to the accelerator pump arm. At least all my other pre 70 carbs have it that way.
You got me on that. What would be the differences? Also, are you possibly questioning the idle compensator in the back of the carb?
It does look like the top of the carb and the base may have been changed out, but the center looks totally original.
I must assume the date code was not stamped in the same locations as 70 and up. I don't know 69 and later stuff...
Restamper :blast: :moonu: There's got to be someone on here that doesn't see a problem with the fellow who restamped. If a rebody is fine, then what's the harm in a little carb restamp? I can hear their arguements now. A Rochester is a Rochester! What's the difference? It was this bozo's carb when he restamped it, right? If he owns it he can do whatever he wants. "I didn't do it to deceive anyone..." Just terrible. I sincerely hope it works out for you Mike, and I commend you wanting to make your listing right. Doug's sure got a good eye!
I added this disclaimer to my auction, I do NOT want anyone to think I am misleading them. Thanks for all your help guys. "Okay, PLEASE read this... I am getting a lot of calls and e-mails regarding the authenticity of this carburetor. Some are claiming it is a re-stamp and not original. I have had a few people contact me and tell me it was a "parts carb" and just junk, then want to know what I would take for it...leading me to believe that they just wanted to buy it cheap. All I know is that WHEN I BOUGHT IT, I was told that it was a REAL carb, and NOT a re-stamp. I am not an expert on carburetors, nor do I claim to be! I am ONLY going by what I was told. So... I am adding this disclaimer...I DO NOT guarantee the authenticity or the originality of this carb. I am selling it as is, where is with NO GUARANTEE of authenticity. I was told it was an original bodied carb, but I have no way of knowing this for sure. I am getting too many conflicting stories and I want to be as honest as possible...I do NOT want anyone to be unhappy. It is a NO RESERVE auction and I am not going to go through having someone tell me later that I did not represent it accurately. Do you research and, if you have already bid and want to retract your bid, please do so, no hard feelings. Again, no warranties expressed or implied, sale is final and thanks to all that have tried to be helpful, both those who have told me it was real and those who have told me otherwise. Thank you!"
Its inside that counts primary rods 42B Sec. rods AU Jets 68 rear Hanger J if thats whats in it thats real close the No# look Good but that is a 1970 Base and the top is a 70 350 but no problem changing that or adding I would buy it if I needed one.........
Hey guys, just thought I'd chime in since I was the winning bidder. I'm sure some will say I paid too much for this carb at $350. That's fine, it's my money to spend and I have good reason for paying it. The Stage 1 in my avatar is numbers matching front to back (distributor, carb, engine, trans, rear) and I want a second "numbers" carb to run on it so I can shelf/ save the original. For this purpose I'm not too worried if it is a restamp so long as it looks correct to the general population. I'm hoping that it isn't a re-stamp but rather a Stage 1 with different base plate and air horn. If it is, I know of a 69 400 carb I could rob those parts from. Does anyone know if this would return it back to a "true" Stage 1 for all intents and purposes? As far as I know those two parts don't have any identifying part numbers. o No: Once I get back home I'll crack open the carb and report back on what I find inside. Matching rods and jets will go a long way toward proving it is a true Stage 1 hopefully. If not, I'll happily run it kowing I still have a true Stage 1 carbin a safe spot at home. Thanks Mike for the carb! You presented it well and were Johnny on the spot when there was doubt about it's originality. Aubrey
Just rob the 69 400 for the parts you may have to put New Bushings in the base plate to update the carbs performance so its not sucking air, but it won't take much, Good Deal :TU:
