Man , asking about a REAL Stage 1 cam or help deciphering one around here is like asking a woman about her weight.
    Good luck

I don't have the secret decoder ring for it but I think I'd ask the question in the BBB forum instead of here. And can I suggest that a bit of explanation for each of the numbers listed would be of some help just in case there is some question about what the short hand means. FYI, it took seveal years of looking by the GSCA as a whole to find a NOS Stage 1 camshaft to measure; there were no official specifications on the camshaft other than the part number until one was found and measured.

  4. Not sure if this will help or not, but found this...

Not sure if it is an option or not to have your customer's cam checked on a cam doctor or not. :Do No:

Looks like a factory Stage 2 cam.

    Hi Chuck,

I degreed an NOS Stage One cam a few years back, and I dug out my notes. What I got is almost exactly what 1972LS5Chevelle listed. My results are close, and maybe not exact, but confirms his findings. At .050" lift, I measured the intake duration at 207 degrees, and the exhaust at 224 degrees. Lift was .400" and .435" respectively. Intake centerline was around 114.5, the exhaust at 116.5, putting the LSA at 115.5. I hope this helps in some way.

I have been looking over the cam numbers listed and cannot come to a conclusion as to what they represent.

I do know that Factory Original Stage 1 and Stage 2 cams are easy to identify by the grooves ground around the cam just behind the front bearing journal. Refer to the attached pic. 1 groove = Stage 1, 2 grooves = Stage 2, I do not have a pic but 3 grooves = Riviera Stage 1.

I have had several Stage 1 cams and still have an original with 1 bad lobe as well as 1 NOS. I have put them into a block and checked them. The numbers I came up with are real close to the numbers that Dan posted.

Chuck, could you add a pic or 2 of the cam.
