    Hello,
I found a 70 LeSabre in the boneyard with motor. How do I determine if it's a 455 or 350?

    Wrong forum.....

But, if you look at the back of the block (top side) where the block meets the transmission, the numbers "455" should be cast into the block if it's a 455. You might have to clean up this area if there is a lot of oil and gunk in this area to see the casting numbers.

I'll see if I can find and post a picture.

At the back of the engine, where it meets the transmission (12 'o clock position), you will find 455 in big digits.

Or count the valve cover bolts:

    5 bolts = a 455
    6 bolts = a 350 :TU:

    5 bolts = 400, 430, or 455....

For 1970 that will be a 455, if it's still the original engine.

Just for quick reference at the yard.

    Matt:

Is it a 2-door or a 4-door? If it's a 2-door, any possibility you could pull 2 small pieces for me if they're on the car? I need the chrome/rubber pieces that separate the two windows on each side for a 2-door hardtop. I'll gladly pay a reasonable price. Thanks!

The other easy way would be to check the vin...464 is a 455, 454 is a 350. Swapping motors from one to the other would be very unlikely as you'd have to weld in new mounts, so it most likely has the original engine. Badges on the quarter would give away a 455 also.
