Just found this thread. This is great. The stuff dreams are made of. The City of Tulsa made a big deal out of that stupid '57 Plymouth rust bucket buried in a time capsule. This thread is a much better story! Please update when you get a chance!
well, I went down there Saturday with a crew and metal detectors but we didnt have any luck because its basically all metal. Even the detectors that shows size and pics couldnt do it......it got too confused. What Im going to do is buy a bobcat or a small bulldozer and take small portions at a time and go through it little by little. After Im done with the dozer, Ill just sell it. There is a kumatsu for sale locally its a 2005 for 9500. Didnt seem too bad. Im after that dome hood ss427 impala that is down there. The owner said it was burried with the hood on it with the complete drivetrain still in it. It was a red car.....talk about a rare bird.
I would not suggest a bulldozer....that is crude tool/item. You need something that you have better control over such as a small backhoe on the rear of a small tractor with a front end loader....this way you can uncover the cars like an archeological dig and prevent any damage to a rare car. Once you have the outline of the car.....you can use a larger backhoe or front end loader w/some men using shovels to see what is there.
Tell me I can have the 427 67 and I'll bring my shovel and tools and personally dig that one up myself...Great thread!!!!!
I made a similar, but not as spectaclular find last year and I walk by it in my barn and moan in pain as do my buddies! last year I discovered a '73 Z28 behind the garage of a neiber of a girlfriend(behind a garage sunk-in in Ohio got the picture) sadly its supposed to be (per Jim Trouwine of Trouwine Buick-GMC) one of 750 '73 FACORY Z28/RS optioned 4-speed cars to make it through the Norwood Oh. strike of '73. And to further verifie this I talked to several previous Norwood employees we have where I work and as I know when we build a limited run veh. it is exactly that! (I work in Moraine Oh. building trailblazer/envoy/rainer/bravada/saab9-7/isuzu assender sport utilities),and we ended up with some Norwood people. Several G.M.ers came to buy this car to only walk away moaning! I'm only keeping the complete hulk for the day I run across a savable 70-81 shell to transfer to! the only obstacle I run into is Ohio troopers want to re-title this as a 2007 when finally inspected! MAJOR BUMMER! I have a good clean title to '73. 86gsx
Ha....Ill be glad to pay you for help, but sadly, I cant give the car away.....I want it pretty bad....well technically I have it, but I havent found it yet. Crazy I know but I have only been back twice since the camaro dig. I did find a ton of parts and I have a good feeling that I know where the 427 is burried. Ill get some pics this week and hopefully have some good news.
We were thinking a bobcat would be the way to go and just move about 2 feet at a time. It would be very time consuming, but probably worth it.
A mini-excavator would be the ticket (a miniture track-hoe). I work with loaded pipelines everyday and that is what we use digging in the vicinity of crosslines. You can feel anything out of the ordinary and would lessen the risk of damaging body panels and the like.
