I would say the repro emblems are pretty good. The metal is softer than original, so you probably can't take them on + off 50 times. The chrome is probably not as good (thick) as originals. But...they look excellent and fit mostly right. You have to be careful on ebay, because some sellers say an emblem (like 455) is the same for all years and it's not.
The reproduction Stage-1 emblems have a different edge contour than oirginal and the pins are a little thicker and off a bit.
looks like images saved on my iphone wont work but if I take them from my facebook profile they work.. annoying. think I have the original stage 1 emblems, but so far it is somewhat a mystery. they would still need to be refinished. thanks for the feedback
few more.. we dyno'ed the motor for break-in and leak testing after rebuild so some of the parts on it are temporary
Looks great, you are making progress! The temp sender is where the vac tree should be. Maybe you just tossed it in to fill the hole. ---------- Post added at 06:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:03 PM ---------- Now that I'm looking at it from a different angle...are you sure that's the right intake?
if I remember correctly, the intake is off of a '71. I have the correct intake on my parts car (which I didn't have at the time of the dyno). in the process of swapping. nice catch. supposed to be 1231718, right? What do you guys think of spending the money to get numbers matching carb? I have one off a '70 electra which ends in 0 instead of 6. it is obviously not to stage 1 specs... how big of a deduction would this be at a show?
My understanding is that they don't look at carb numbers, at least in the BCA + GSCA. The NMCA is different, they are like 'vette judges and look at EVERYTHING including date codes. You can't easily see the carb numbers on a GS, I wouldn't worry about it. I judge sometimes for the OCA, we aren't allowed to remove any parts to look at numbers. 'Course...the other Stage 1 guys will be all over the car checking for faults, so they might spot it.
Justen, Looks nice. I do not think the trans. dipstick tube should be black. Every one I have ever seen was just natural metal. ---------- Post added at 03:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:35 PM ---------- I just looked at a spare I have and it may even have a gray phosphate coating.
I'll have to fix that. Anyone familiar with the gas tanks on these things? I'm not sure if mine is original or not, but it is the one with 2 holes on the passenger side front of tank.. Any help here would be great! justen
I'm somewhat familiar with them. That's how the tank is on my 70 GS, there should be a small plastic vent tank there. What's the prob with the tank? I agree with Dave on the trans tube + stick.
the 2 tanks I ordered in are different than the one I took off. one came without a filler neck and the other has 3 vents spaced evenly across the front.. looks like just a standard a-body tank is what I should be going with? ---------- Post added at 08:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:32 AM ---------- just ordered a GM34Q which should be the correct one, finally. claims it comes with a filler neck and 2 vents. I also found the vent you were talking about. Thanks ---------- Post added at 08:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:10 AM ---------- just ordered a GM34Q which should be the correct one, finally. claims it comes with a filler neck and 2 vents. The tank should have 2 vent tubes on the pass side at the front, one lg tube, one small. Buy the vent from Inline off ebay, get the one for 442 if you don't see one for GS. Get the vent with the hoses and correct pinch clamps attached, then you don't need to look for the other parts. That vent should have a filter in it, some repros don't. You will need to trim the hoses a bit. One or both of my hoses were stamped GAS GAS (Freemont car).
