:beers2: Listing this for a good friend.... Wayne and I were high schoold bubbies, only to find out just recently that we are neighbors living on the same street. Imagine that!

Wayne is a straight up guy and who ever buys this 1970 GS is getting one heck on a car at an unbelievable price!

Here is Wayne`s description of this awesome car......

This was my friend Steve’s “turning 50 dream car.” He purchased it over the internet “sight unseen” from NJ all original and with matching numbers and a vinyl top.

It was delivered to his home address in January of 2005. And
Steve being inexperienced in any vehicle restoration, and
I have over 30 years in the automotive industry field asked me to help him out. After all this was his “dream car” and right up my alley. I agreed.

When the car arrived, it looked good. Steve figured all it needed was a trunk. When I looked at the car I knew it needed more than “just a trunk”. We all know these A body style had leaky back windows and are notorious for rotted trunks.

When he peeled back the vinyl top he soon discovered it needed more that a trunk floor.surprise! It needed a complete main floor, R&L rocker panels, rear inner and outer wheel well housings, top skin, and rear quarter panels. A typical sight unseen internet purchase.

But after all, this was Steve’s dream car and he was pretty
excited. So he started to disassemble the car piece by piece and removed everything from the trans, motor to the license plate screws and “put them neatly in a box ..needless to say a complete basket case.

The car was delivered to my door in as a complete bare
rolling chassis. With all due respect for Steve, I know he wanted to complete this car and between my midnight shift and rotating days off work, full time Dad and husband schedule, in my spare time, I would work on this car in my 2.5 garage. This turned out to be a complete body off frame restoration.

With a large surplus of funds to work with, Steve had the extra to complete this project. He researched “Year One” and aftermarket suppliers and assumed that all sheet metal parts were available to restore this car. The complete floor, R&L rocker panels, inner wheel houses he ordered were compatible, but the top skin, full rear quarter panels, deck panel, and outer rear wheel housings were not available in reproduction in the 70-72 Skylark…Surprise!!

In October of 2006 I completed installation on the main floor, trunk floor and rocker panels. While Steve tried to figure out where to find the rest to complete this body. Steve also decided to that he was going to do a career change and decided to move his family to California, you can imagine my surprise to that!!!. Taking the trans and motor with him. With the intention to ship the finished body out and complete the car there.

So from October of 2006 to February of 2007 the “Dream Car” sat in my garage at a standstill. Well past the estimated date of completion.

In February of 2007 Steve located a “donor car” in AZ. It was delivered to my home address in March of 2007. This donor was in better shape than the one in my garage!!! I removed all the needed metal. Once the pieces were off I stripped them down to the bare metal, prepped them for paint, then hung them on the car to fit. I carefully installed all panels to factory in relationship to the spot welds. For example, the rear quarters and door jambs were installed on the top of rockers, not seamed in where you would see
in a shop renovation. I feel this has more “off the line factory look.” All the sheet metal including the doors, the cowl induction hood, front fenders and core support are original, solid and in good shape. The frame was completely sand blasted and painted. The entire body stripped to bare metal inside and out and completely painted
in the original #50 Bamboo Cream using Du Pont products.

I could go on for days with details of this renovation. All the
issues that came up, and the stories, but the car as it sits, is a complete rolling chassis. As I stated before, unfortunety the original 455 engine and trans was relocated to California and is not longer available for sale.

Due to the slow economy the project has come to a halt and this vehicle needs to be sold. The asking price is $8000.00 and the invested value is $20,000.00. This would be an excellent donor car for someone looking for a body or has an engine and trans.

What are the panels in the trunk?

The panels in the trunk were incorrect rear deck panels (area between rear glass and trunk lid). These fit a Chevelle and not a Buick.

So why was the left rear quarter removed? Looked like you had all the sheetmetal hung in the earlier pics.

The new and better quality quarter panel became available from "Then and Now" so the decission was made to remove the quarter panel.

So Dan, let me get this straight, after the car was painted the owner wanted a different quarter panel on the car.

Did he buy the quarter allready?

Any current pictures of the car as it sits.

He probably hurt his chance of selling this thing by going backwards, having to hang a couple of doors or a fender is one thing but a quarter panel is a different story.

    Thanks for letting me know.
I only wanted the body & chassis, but not the pile of parts for it, anyway.
