Im not saying the stage cars and the X's don't deserve to bring 90k to 150k provided they are top level,....they do and have deserved it for years,....but the whole mentality I mentioned above irritates me to no end,...these idiot car dealers will start asking 60k for 72 GS350 hardtops before long I bet
We lament that the lower quality LS6 cars bring bigger numbers than the better built (and proven quicker) Stage 1's, yet one hammers high and the the internet is up in arms. The thread about this particular car on Facebook right after the auction was absolutely hysterical, riddled with buffoons who've yet to realize we absolutely can't have it both ways. Will pricing come down a bit going forward? Most likely but the days of the $2,500, complete top of the line car are history. If you wanna play with the higher end stuff, you're gonna have to take the padlock off the wallet. That's just the way things are now.
Brett Jan. 1994 musclcars mag. Wow what a issue 2 70 stage 2s jones and benisek car then owned by Tom rix and the kb white car owned by Dave Johnson at that time that guy has now and a red 70 bench 4 speed that the mag says ‘maybe 4 dozen came that way’
The car Tom Rix owned started life as a bench seat 4-speed magazine test car. I wonder if that's referenced at all in that article. Is it Musclecars or Musclecar Review?
It is just musclecars mag, it states ‘ fire red beauty that was a factory mule car for the flint crew ‘ and was sold at auction for 2500 to Doug jones and Dave B. There is a pic in the mag of the base black bench, radio delete plate and race auto shifter. This car was a magazine test car as you say and a twin to my red stripper , except the wheel option and the steering wheel option! Gregg
Jay. Doug and Dave shared info all between Jim Bell, Lennie, and Dennis. All the inter-departmental letters concerning the Stg2 program on track testing were between Jim Bell, Lennie, Dennis. Dennis did give me the corresponding letters back and forth with Jim. All about there Reynolds sponsored car. Doug and Dave did purchase there Stg2 heads from a dealer. And with everyone involved (all four of them!) through KB, Lennie, Doug Jones, and Dave working out of the GM training camp…used as the “back door” supplying the parts through Reynolds Buick to KB. All during the GM racing ban. Pretty interesting.
I thought i had all the older magazines with stage 1s in them but was wrong.. ran like a school girl and found the magazine on ebay..
They all have went up..Stage 1's to GS's to Skylarks.. How "much" is up for debate..whats not up for debate is they aint making anymore and never will..
Here’s two more mags I have that I’m sure some of you also have, that has the same red car test in it(they basically describe it as a “platform on which to erect the all out stock class runner” Motorcade march 1970 stage 1 4speed low options.and the book Buick Muscle Cars 1965-1970 same car again fire red 4 speed “the Buick gs 455 stage 1 as delivered is one of the most complete drag racing competition vehicles to be found” I had these articles years ago and then I found the twin to this car on eBay in my home state with 71 and 72 bumpers on it! Called Wayne roberts with the vin to document it and drove out to rapid city sd to get it when it didn’t meet reserve in about 2010. Car sold new in rapid city too. Gregg
I just noticed the original article in the Buick muscle car book was in Road Test mag march 1970 if any one want to look for it gregg
https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?a...-1970-3-road-test-magazine_page_2-jpg.597911/ They must have guessed the torque Buick provided was a misprint, or the article is a misprint of 410 lb/ft. At least they got it right in the summary box. Troy
Troy the 410tq you saw was a gs 35o they mentioned on the previous page! They got it right, check the page before that page gregg
