I thought J C bought this from Henry White. I looked at it at Henry's place when I stopped by to pick up some parts for another member a few years back. To bad they changed the original colors.
I saw this car at the nationals and talked to Henry for a long time about the car. The car was beautiful. This was a car Henry had back in High School and I know it was hard for him to let it go when he decided to sell it. I agree with Mike Sobotka I also thought J C bought this from Henry White. But like many of us he changes cars often so who knows who has it now. Great looking car with only minor things needing attention to be a GS National Gold car again. Bidding strikes me as a bit odd but who knows.
That bidding makes no sense to me unless it is different for cars. No matter what you bid, the amount should only go up by the bid increment higher than the other bidder's high bid, right?
IIRC John C bought it from Henry in the summer of 2013, when Henry was selling the car and a whole bunch of parts. It went to auction at Mecum and didn't sell there, but John sold it a short time afterwards. Still had the black painted top then. Also, as I recall, Henry restored it with the white interior, even though it was incorrect, because that is the why it was when he bought it back in the 70's. https://www.mecum.com/lots/CH1013-167138/1970-buick-gs-stage-1/
No, if you bid enough to meet the reserve, it will take up your bid up that amount, even if no other bidder has bidder that high.
I'm not really a fan of them. I get the whole rarity thing, but I'd rather see it with a vinyl top or just non at all. Sometimes "rare" and "desirable" don't go hand in hand
Is this car 1 of 54 and where does the statement come from? I am the owner of a very earlyclose twin to this car o9a 48 A . Mine has power drum; consolette and f9 v2 14 inch wheel and tires. Sold new in hot Texas hence the ac and white interior! I had read these 70 4 speed ac cars were like 230 of the 664 I have just started a body on Resto of this car that Gary foster of Iowa is doing. He is one of the best on these cars this is his 6th one plus he does many 455 engines for other restorers. Gregg
Correct or not, that thing is gorgeous. That might be how I would've ordered one had i been alive and in the market back then. I like all the different greens, though.
Nice looking car except the body color.. That engine stamp does not pass the mustard to me.... I call it a restamp and does not look anything like a gang stamp (picture below).. Looks like front sway bar, rear axle and lower control arms were pitted. I guess the frame was pitted also as it seems to have bondo (smoothed) in some areas. I have no problem with a color change to go to a better color. In the light they pictured it in it does not look Sherwood green. .
