Hello Brothers. I have a 1970 buick GS I think is bone stock and it runs and drives 100% the car is all original and is from west coast. 350 Auto It has DLX, Interior buckets console, AC tilt Power Disc brakes, Ralley Wheels 0 rust and no body damage New too the Buick stable and should I be upping to 455? want that stump pulling torque,,, or keep it stock and find one with 455? Hate to kill a unmolested GS But the need for Speed overshadows common sense:3gears: your input is valued...
Done correctly you wouldnt kill it. Just don't do anything you cant undo later, keep all the original stuff. This is just one option. The main thing is to do what you want, like. Doug
Buy another GS with a 455 or a Skylark and clone it into a 455 GS. Please don't do it to your "unmolested car". Kurt
A 1970 gs 350 is a very rare vehicle. I know there were more built (@9900 or so) in 1970 than the GS 455. How many unmolested 70 GS350 exist today? Maybe 1000?
if you're willing to wait a little bit, TA is supposed to be bringing out aluminum heads and a single plane intake for the SBB 350 within the next year. that should wake the 350 up pretty nicely.
Why wait? Port the stock heads, intake and exhaust manifolds. Then add a nice cam, and you are whoppin' a$$ while looking bone stock!
I would suggest getting a decent lark to add the 455 to. GS's are much more valuable in stock regalia than rodded out, and at this time at least skylarks are still fairly reasonably priced.
This is what i would do I build my car the way I want it, but you should consider building the 350 they have good power potential.I'm just a big block guy so i would put one in. Jamie
+1 Or turbo the 350 or better yet put a 455 in her and turbo. besides didn't chevy make the 350, just kidding, sorry 350 guys I could not resist.
Hi, I live 60 kms. north of Vancouver, B.C.. Did your '70 GS 350 have an owner in B.C.? Sounds like a nicely optioned Buick. There's plenty of potential in the 350, so I'd agree to keep the original drive train intact. Is that your classic boat featured in your profile? Take care, Nando.
honestly if your going to go for re-sale value keep it original but if your gonna to do something (i hate to say it) boring then keep it as a 350.
The 1970 GS is from calif. transplanted too the rust belt 20 years ago never winter driven and garaged. Air blows ice cold... I was surprized how well it drove on hwy at 70MPH cruised nice and got half decent MPG. Decided to keep it stock ,and find another One for trashing 1/4mile track Up here they take your car if your caught street racing,,, watched a few U tube Videos and I am hooked on 455 Buick torque and sound Undecided on Skylark G/S or apollo body style I understand they weigh the same. The boat in pic is just for show ....lol All the Best To all Members in 2009.:dollar:
Been debating the same thing with my 72 350. Finally decided to leave the 350 in there simply because it is original, and when done properly the small block can produce enough grunt to satisfy most people and still be plenty streetable. If you need to go really really fast then look for another skylark, or even a g body (Regal) to do the transplant.
