The entire differential center section is alum. Not just the cover. The tubes are steel and were pressed into the alum. diff. This was an Olds only, 1970 only, W-30, W-31, W-32 only option. Not too many left out there.
I thought it was alum. from what I read, but wasn't sure. Was the alum. painted, or left cast color? That is one rare piece you have there. Hope it does well. Another question. Did any other A-Bodies get a similar rear end? Or was the W's all that got lucky?
The aluminum was left cast, not painted. Heres one all shined up. This is the only other W-31 that ive seen with a W-27 diff. I think others on here have the same tho. [/IMG]
Thanks for the info guys! I don't understand why only Olds got the rears, but that's GM for you. Guess Chevy finally got screwed for once. I am having to learn about these Olds since my father is force feeding me with them. He is now in love with W cars.
