Agreed 100% but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

I wonder if LoneStarMotorsports put eyes on that car before upping the bid by 35k?

Max Damage I'm working on it!

I think they are pretty sure they won't buy the car at that price...

On BAT, it really doesn't matter when you bid, especially when there is a reserve. $72k for that car would be a steal (the reserve is certainly higher), so if that's what he thinks it's worth and is willing to pay, then it doesn't matter if he bids it early or late, what matters is if/what somebody else bids.

    Well said Rick.

I have known the owner over 20 years and he is one of the finest Buick people I have had the honor to know. I also knew the previous owner before he passed away many years ago. Larry was an amazingly kind, Respected and knowledgable Buick gentleman in the Carolina Chapter. This GSX is a very nice car maybe its not perfect but few of these Buicks still around are. To see people and members of this board bash this car and the sellers motives bothers me. Larry is not around to answer questions about things in the past with the car and the current owner has a job that keeps him busy so he cant be at the computer answering questions constantly nor may he have an answer for everything about the car. I have more than once seen this car in person. I also know it was judged at the Nationals many years ago and at that time no concourse judge caught that it was not an original A/C car. They did not see the kick panels and judges cant get under the car to get the code off the rear axle. Whomever buys this car will not be disappointed with it. Maybe whoever gets it will drive and enjoy it not just try to make it perfect after all its just a car. I hope the car sets a record high value that we can all hope for our cars but with all the bashing going on and negative undertone of what people are implying I can only say feel free to post pics of your car and I would fair guess we can all find flaws in it as well. Best of luck to my friend the seller and to anyone selling a car they truly love no matter what it is because we all hate to part with the ones that mean a lot to us.

Hey, I dig it - You are for the seller and you hope he can cash out with as much as possible (even to the detriment of the Buick market).

I'm for the market and I hope it gets as much correct information in order to make an informed decision.

I agree with you, this is the holy grail of Buicks - a real 1970 GSX Stage 1 and nobody disagrees.

The problem is there isn't much left of the original car and seller information is sketchy at best.

There is forum talk that some awesome guy did a great restoration (how much is in question), but what I see is an interior that absolutely needs work - just look close and you will see.

Someone took the best of the Buicks, took their turn and unfortunately, let it slide.

The "Q-Q" body tag is the only tell-tale sign of life left and now they expect it to reap a reward that it just doesn't deserve anymore. The heartbreaking part of this is, it could have been avoided.

Just like maintenance in the Real Estate business - You either pay as you go or you pay in the end; either way, you pay...

As an owner of a modified Buick, why would you be for the market?

The market takes care of itself and only gets destroyed when special interest rolls in.

I believe there is a "type" of car for everyone.

I'm the luckiest guy alive! I drive a Buick that was never produced from the line, but has been experimented with and talked about to death.

    I have a 1972 Buick GS350 Convertible (originally).

It was modified with a 510 hp/600 lb ft 455, F41 suspension (and other changes/tweaks, front/back), posi/3.04, 3,500 stall/shift kit, upgraded fuel/oil systems, upgraded cooling and too many other neat options/upgrades to brag about.

    When asked, I call it a 1972 Buick GS455 Stage 2 Convertible and it sits on 15” x 8” Rallye's; front 245/60r15 & rear 275/60r15.

I know, it's not supposed to exist, but we haven't had more fun in any single car before and I don't have to answer to anyone for anything.

I just idle through the crowd, rev it once in a while and watch as they just point and stare. Even the Buick guys stutter when I raise the hood...

And your interest doesn’t count as special? Why would someone else’s interest less important than yours?

You’re trying to call out and devalue cars that may not have the original factory piston rings or a less than perfect 54 year old interior, but are boasting about calling your modified Buick something completely made up. It all seems very inconsistent.

Are you interested in bidding on this GSX?

No, he's not interested in bidding on it because BaT is a terrible place to sell a car; the seller is not answering questions to his liking; the bidders are bidding it up too fast; the car is merely a "shell" of itself now since the original engine was replaced; and all of us are crazy for not understanding his idea of how to properly sell a car online. We should all thank him for enlightening us...

So I have been watching BAT for several years and have seen most all of "ChesapeakeChris" expert comments on 71-72 GS's mostly he believes he is a 1970 Buick GS expert though. He is a Troll.

'Trolling is when someone posts or comments online to ‘bait’ people, which means deliberately provoking an argument or emotional reaction. In some cases they say things they don’t even believe, just to cause drama. In other cases, they may not agree with the views of another person or group online, so they try to discredit, humiliate or punish them."

"This can make them feel more powerful and less cautious than they would be if they were talking to someone ‘IRL’ or in person."

"Trolls also often try to downplay the impact of their behavior, claiming anyone who’s upset by their posts or comments is overreacting. They may say it was just a joke, or the person who they targeted needs to toughen up."

Chris mostly lives in his own made online reality ( look at his comments) he relishes to opportunity to expound on "his" wise decision when buying his own bastard Buick. He never misses the chance to play the hero and keeper of moral integrity as savior of the Buick community at the same time driving down the price of auctions by questing the integrity of the potential buyer. This has a two fold benefit, as he castes dispersions on the selling individual and car (driving the price down) at the same time in his mind builds himself up a the hero, who like Mighty Mouse is here to save the day.

The more we respond to him the more power he feels. In reality he is a sad induvial who has found a place to play the hero. His comments have no value, don't add to the integrity of the community, build people up, create a sense of comradery or even further information on the hobby. He is illogical, emotional and contradictory. Most everything he says is to promote himself in his own mind.

I haven't taken it to VA Motorsports Park (closest track). I don't think it's wise to run a convertible without some protection; a roll cage, arm straps or even a harness; I've got a lap belt and a squeaky sun visor. I'm toying with the idea of a harness upgrade for 4 (for the street).

But, because inquiring minds want to know, prior management has averaged high 11's with a low 120 trap.

Your opinion, though obviously you have an agenda that doesn't line up with mine.

Again, for the record, I have my Buick and don't need another.

Everything I post I can back up and I attack bad/lack of information, not sellers

Though, I do buy convertibles and then sell them for the capital gain. Look at your tax brackets, married filing jointly allows us in 2023 $89,250 Fed income tax at 0%. Best loophole in town.

So YES, I scour the hot sheets, auctions, on line (& off line) **** holes for convertibles that meet my criteria. All the rest, I comment on behalf of the buyer's market. Because, I think we should.

To add to your "troll" definition; most of the comments and bids made on BaT are controlled "trolls" aka "shills" designed to encourage and raise bids...

I just read through all the comments, WoW, man there are some pissed off people here. To add my 2cents worth. I started out about 4 years ago searching for a top-of-the-line Stage 1 1970 455 Buick. Didn't take me long to find out my pockets were not deep enough for that buy.

Since this is my first buy and I wasn't on the V8 Buick forum or any forum, I was a Buick hunter with no knowledge of what everybody's talking about here, Waynes Roberts or Slone Report.

So, I detune my expectations to a 1970 GS 455 automatic car.
I finely find one, but it was purchased from a Dealership in NC by the owner who is now putting up for sale by a consignment dealer.

This is just the start of my 2-year problem after I buy this car. The Ad is a copy of the Ad from the Dealership in NC. The consignment Dealer plagiarized it.

Me the dummy didn't have a clue. However, I asked to speak with the owner because I have a lot of questions. The Dealer tells me the owner is very sick and not able to speak to me. O' I said, I felt very sorry for the owner and left it at that. One of the guys on this forum drove to this Dealer and did a quick inspection of the car. He did this as a favor for a friend on this forum that was helping me. He found the A/C unit was leaking oil and though he could smell either race gas or octane booster being used but couldn't be 100% sure.

I asked the dealer about this issue, he said he will take it to his A/C man and have it checked out. He comes back to me in a couple of days and says it's blowing very cold nothing to worry about. I'm not convinced but this Dealer is way too far away for me to get there. I found out that the Buick was restored in 2012 by one of the guys on this forum and he is very well respected plus he uses a super good Buick engine rebuilder.
Now I'm really happy and negotiate a price that I'm fine with and buy the car.

One I get the car, my first drive was terrible. Brakes didn't work. Later found out lots of vacuum leaks, I only had 11 inches of mercury.
Couldn't get the car to idle. Found out someone installing the carburetor wrench to hard and warped the carb base. Had to replace carburetor.
A/C died within a week, had to replace the A/C more $$$$.

Got engine detonation at all rpms. As you might expect, I had the car put into a Classic car shop for all these repairs. This repair got super expensive, replaced every part of the cooling system. Larry the Wizard came to my aid and recommended I have a Griffin aluminum radiator installed. THAT finally did the trick, no more high-water temperatures.

    Now, back to the Ad.
    Number matching. Yes it was.
Differential Ratio Advertised as 3.42.1. Found out it was a 3.91 posi.

A lot of upgrades were done to this car I didn't know about, but I liked.
Base 455 heads were upgraded to the big valve Stage 1 heads.
Oil passages were open up to 5/8 inch. That is a real plus-up.
    Comp cam installed.

    Front disc brakes.
    Previous owner did.

    F41 superstition packet.
    Tilt steering wheel.
    Shift Kit.
Only reason I found out this all info is because I ordered Slone Report.

Now for the really BAD news. No one knew (but the previous owner) that the engine had been pulled out and
Kenne Bell high compression pistons had been installed. This is the reason for the engine detonation problems.

It took 2+ years to get all this corrected so I could drive my Buick. To be clear, I also had some upgrades done for me.
    All new interiors.
New buckets seats. WHY, because I like the look of the Stage 1 with Bucket seats, more muscle car look.
    Floor console with floor shifter.
Look alike Buick am/FM radio with Bluetooth.
Rear backup camera so I don't bash this nice Buick into anything.
Security: Concealed engine cut off switch.

Botton Line, DO NOT trust any Dealership, they get paid to sell cars, make a profit,
not confirm if anything on their Ad is CORRECT.

I paid the price dearly, but now I'm much smarter consumer when it comes to Classic cars. VET
