how do you tighten a manual mirror? Took it off and the screw head looked to be a square head???

    Thanks!

A square head or a square drive?. The square drive is a "Robertson" which you can pick up at Sears, or all the big box stores have the "Driver kits" that usually include the Robertson' bits. Used a lot on some brands of boats and a lot of mobile homes. ws

Did they have that back in 1970 or is it a Phillips that is stripped?

Better ask an exspurt; IS BOB VILA in the house?? Worst case scenario, drill the head off, dis-assemble and grab the stub with vise grips. Let some kroil or PB Blaster soak in for a day or two first. You can also try an impact driver for screws. Thatll take 2 people. Steel screws and aluminum housings are always a hassle. Re-assemble with a dab of never seize on the threads, of course!

Try posting a pic of whatcha got. Telepathy isn't my forte LOL... ws

It isn't clear what the problem is. I took it to be what Jim thought. Post a picture.

Opened her up and here lies the problem. A self cutting sheet metal screw and nut! I would assume the "Factory" hardware is different?

Where can I get the correct "Parts"?

    Thank,you!!!!

Looks like that was a "make it work" fix. Can you re-tap it or JB Weld it an drill and re-tap it? Looks like a piece that worthy of a decent restoration... ws
