Was browsing ebay on Sunday afternoon. I have always wondered why Buicks and in some cases Oldsmobile don't bring out the big bucks for cars like this. Say this car is a documented 1970 Challenger or 'Cuda with Hemi (now missing/apples to apples) or a 1970 Chevelle SS documented with 454 LSwhatever. I have seen Mopar and others practically trip over each other or double dog dare each other to outbid a car like this into the 5 digits. Stupid money.

Because I suspect this car belongs to a forum member, I will not post comments on condition vs. asking price.

Nonetheless, how much is provenance worth? That is, how much is that Stage 1 tag worth? Would someone buy these remains to "restore" by then buying a date coded 1970-72ish Stage 1 and all the work needed or will this car ever be restored? Why do Mopar guys do it when production numbers were similar?

I'm no expert, but I know it would cost WAY more to restore that car as is than to just buy a Stage 1 finished with a matching number or NOM Stage 1. It really depends on the person buying it, if they will do the work thenselves and if they have the parts to do it.

For an investment of $70k, you would have one sweet 40k car.

I can't understand it myself, there's a show on Velosity called Graveyard Cars about a shop that restores Mopar's. They have a 71 Cuda 440 6pac they are working on that some how he got a guy to buy the car for $250,00 so he can restore it for him and the car is a totaled out wreck? You can go to their websit and see it, this car was flipped and crached into a pole there's not 1 stright body panel on the whole car and the interior's trashed. It's not even a Hemi and some one is sinking this kind of money in it?

It might be just me but I'd take a stage 1 over a Cuda anyday especially a 440 but the Buick wont bring in any where near the cash a Cuda would bring. I guess we just have to wait for ther rest of the automotive world to come to their senses and give these Buick's the respect they deserve but I wont hold my breath. This way at least these cars are still within my reach where many have long ago passed me by.

So, a "normal" 1970 Stage 1 is worth $40,000 and a "normal" 1970 Dodge Challenger Hemi is worth $125,000? This really bothers me.

Well in my opinion its a parts car. Not trying to offend anyone but there are no stage specific parts there. Engine, trans, rearend, all gone, so you have a car that the VIN denotes that it is a stage car. With proper documentation of course. As far as the Buick vs Mopar thing, there are far more Mopar fanatics than Buick people so that is just the way it is.:Do No:

What bothers me is that they're worth 40k. I dont know about you, but there are alot more Buicks on my want list. If the prices keep going up, Im not going to be able to afford them. I'd rather see the prices come down. I'd like to buy a 70 Taxi cab
