This one should give us were the markets at on a true 70 stage1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Buic...005QQitemZ150198144994QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
Nice car, great options and low mileage but the column shift, auto trans and the color will hold it back. If he gets a 60K offer he and the Franklin brothers need to head to the bank asap. If he got an offer of 60K and did not head to the bank welp he may or may not get it again. Most often repeats do not surpass the prior auction and often they do less.
I agree with Jim! Nice car, but the column shift and color won't define the high end of the market. Patrick
Just compare this car to the silver 4 speed 70 stage 1 project Nick just sold. If the new owner comes in at 70K with a top resto like you would do Joe, he will have a car as good as new and in many respects better. It will have a better fit and finish, better paint etc. On the other hand this car will still have 23K on the clock and it will look used because it is. Everything on it will be 40 years old. For those that say it is only original once I have heard that a million times. They are nice to see for historical reasons and they are nice to talk about but they are still used cars. They will never look as good as a good resto. Give me the resto for about the same money any day.
Jim I agree, yes that GS Stage 1 is original and very nice but everything is 40 years old and does not compare to freshly restored car.
Leo he wants $100K for this 23K mile 40 year old car. For me I would prefer a #2 condition driver over them all --concours or original.
I have taken the path of buying a true stage1 or convertible that is non numbers matching. I have purchased these vehicles for less than 25 percent of a level 1 or 2. I have will have another ten grand into each and get to drive them on every moisture free day year round. Yes, my cars are a level 2 in my eyes and feels good to know if I want to sell I would break even in my fun of these Buicks. Sure does seem like a big drop in value in these level 1 matching numbers stage 1 cars. Now this gentleman has made a great profit even at 60,000 which a great return on his money. Last year would have been the year to sell for $100,000. Can you imagine if Corporate companies get taxed higher in the future? Say another 15 percent to their corporate tax. Watch out consumers, this will only get passed on to the goods for final sale. OUCH
Jim I think you did the right thing. The high dollar museum pieces we have I just occasionally pull back the covers on whereas the others I drive and enjoy. At the right time I am sending the museum pieces to the next owner.
So do I. I really don't think he will get it, but you never know. There are people out there with more money than is good for them and I ain't one of them. I got a #6 71 gs 455. that I am setting on. It will be at best a #3 when done, but I will be able to drive it.
Jim,plus don't forget the fun factor for crazies like us in bringing a rare beast back to better then:3gears: it's original self.Joe
Joe that is for sure. Note above I said "in many respects better". Also, it if the silvermist 4 speed car were restored for about the same money as this person wants for a 23K mile unrestored brown coumn shift car there would no comparison of their relative values. It hard to quantify it but the difference would be substantial. Note, I am not saying that I would not want this 23K mile car. I am saying it makes no sense to pay a price for it equvalent to a fully restored 4 speed stage stage. And that is the price he is asking.
I'm not one of them, but I know a few collectors who prefer low mileage original cars over fresh pro restored ones. I will take a nicely done car any day over a low mileage one myself.
