has anyone else had prblm./solutions with the removal of rt side sport mirror?? i believe mine are original , and with the door panel removed i cant gain access to the mounting bolts/ screws .the drivers side was held in by a screw on the backside , to the mount , but no screw on the right . i believe them to be original , as there is a renforcement plate in side which looks orig. , but that plate ,along with all the door re-enforcements ,that i belive came out in 71 to help in side impact , restrict access and vision . i think i can feel 2 studs , but cant get a wrench in ,or even be sure if they have nuts . any help would be grt. as i want the mirror off for paint asap thnx .

One screw at rear of mirror takes it off. I believe originals had bracket riveted on so you are drilling it out if that is the case. If there are nuts you should be able to get a wrench in them.

i couldnt see a screw so i went inside but if theres nuts ther unaccessable like i said , so i thought maybe someone painted over the screw outside . sanded down , no screw . i really hate to paint with it on

X2. The screw is on the trailing edge of the mirror's pedestal.

i got it off ,after removing the window for access .thnx for the advice . i think the plate on the backside was installed upside down at some point. but either way its going back in the opposite way . will make it way easier to get to the 7/16 nuts . no screw on the pedestal !!!

    No screw on the pedestal?
Sounds like you have later model mirrors which bolted on from inside the door like you describe. :Do No:
Correct mirrors have a screw on the rear of the pedestal which fastens the mirror to a bracket, and the mirror bracket will be riveted or bolted to the door from the outside.

No screw on mirror is strange. That is all that holds it on. How about a picture of mirror?

Not right for your car anyway.

    Sounds like you have these:

    When you should have these:

However, if they work and seem to fit good, and you're happy with what you have; keep them.

i have one of each!! the driver side has set screw , and mount . from outside . i didnt notice a difference , once mounted , and its back together now with new pui door panels .headliner , legendary seats , and acc carpete . looks grt !! my gs is a lark custom ,anyway . so as long as it looks good , and works good , its all good . i did some cutting / triming on the re-enforcement plate . made access much easier . i dont think i could have started the nuts otherwise
