1971 gs 455 paint color

    so i have notice that the underneath of the hood is painted black. my question is should it be body color 49 or black? the inside of my trunk is paint code 49. if black what black is used

    The underside of the hood is supposed to be a low gloss black. If you want something out of a can, Rustoleum Satin black is a pretty good match.

    thanks jason. was there a reason why two color r applied on the hood? my 69 gs 400 is all one color. Gloss black ? is that the same as the inner fenders?

    I painted the underside of my '70 duplicolor high heat semi gloss. May not be correct, but it looks good! I also painted my inner fenders semi gloss.

    If it is gloss black someone repainted it. Original had a satin black look. The underside of the hood often had body color overspray on it. They were not very neat as body was painted after underside of hood. This is often very noticeable on a light color car.

    The only gloss black that was used under the hood was the air cleaner and heater box on a non AC car. Gloss black is not correct for anything else under the hood.
