Is there a code number ?, for the silver and black detailing on the plastic inserts. Also, was the black a certain type of gloss?. Mine are a little weathered
to say the least and happy they are not broken or molested. I'm also interested in hearing about any modification ideas for paint prep ,and future care.thanks

I used a Rustoleum satin finish black and a Testors silver paint pen. Looked pretty good afterwards

Jason, I do not like rustoleum on plastic. It is enamal and does not take well. The Krylon fusion satin black for plastic works real well as does Eastwood alumiblast for the silver parts. It is a dead macth to original as it is also for a 71 grill and tail lights. It is laqquer based which is better for plactic. I have had nightmare problems using enamels on plastics over the years.

I had bought repro '71 hood grills for my former '71 Buick - they came all black and I used a Testors paint pen to do the outlining which came out great.

can someone post some pics of good and bad paint jobs, lol. also has anybody tried to glue a metal screen to the underside for strength against sudden hail storms or whatnot?.also should i shoot the black first then use the pen?,it looks pretty difficult to mask.any ideas?

sorry it took so long to update but the pics are in, i used krylon satin black, and the testors silver paint pen, found liquid mask at the modeling supply store ,first masked off beside the stripes and liquid masked the stripes like 6 times so it would pull off easily [24 hours between coats] then ran exacto blade beside the striped edges so the masking tape wouldn't pull off the rubber mask ,shot the black ,let dry for a week pulled off the liquid mask remasked the black very lightly with tape ,silver penned it twice
and there you have it .
hope this helps you do yours, goodluck!
i did it this way so the striped areas under the silver is still white/not black if the paint decides to come off
