Hi guys, I have a 71 buick 350 gs convertible that is a bittersweet mist metallic (a burnt orange color) Would I reduce the value of the car if I changed the color? Thanks, Dan.
Color change can effect value (both up and down) as do other modifications. What condition is the car in otherwise? Stock, built, etc?
If you told us it was triple pea green, I'd say a color change would only increase the value. Most Buick guys think Bittersweet is a nice color, so probably. But in the end, it would all depend on who you sell it to. My 71 was Sandpiper beige. I painted it black 25 years ago. Is it worth more or less as a result? Still trying to figure it out...
The car is all stock, but not sure I would like a fresh paint job in bittersweet mist. I would think a nice red with white interior would look more appealing...but hate to devalue a classic that's a gs. Any idea how much a gs 350 convertible is worth all restored?
I changed the color of my 70 GS. It was burnished saddle-not too exciting really. Painted it 71 burnished copper. The car pops and stands out now. The point is don't worry about value unless you are just painting it to sell it. Pick a factory color you like that doesn't clash with the interior and enjoy!
When I am looking at a stock car I would prefer the original color no matter what it was. With that said once you start changing it up and making it something else it takes on a different life and crowd to buy it.
