I have a skylark custom I want to CLONE into a GS or GSX. Can someone let me know if I can paint my custon grill to look like a GS. I have read they are the same ecept for color. If someone has a great PIC of the 72GS grill I would like to see it. Thanks
If you have the 1972 metal Skylark custom grill, then no, it is not the same as the 1972 GS grill (which is plastic and a different design). However, the 1972 plain plastic Skylark grill is the same as the GS grill, only painted differently. Check out this thread for a pic of the '72 GS grill and tips on colors and how to paint it: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=181554
Yes, that was the first change that I did when I bought my '72 Skylark custom convertible. I found a real nice '72 Skylark grill, painted it to a '72 GS grill, and sold off the old metal grill.
We have the custom metal grill in this car. Just painted it. At the time, it was all we had. We have a plastic grill now, but didn't want to change it out. It's not accurate, but this car wasn't a GS or GSX originally, so accuracy didn't matter. How fast it went mattered. Competition only saw the tail lights anyway!!!!!
Here is a '72 GS grill that needs some work - comes with an extra grill: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/71-7...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
