Hello fellow Buick enthusiasts, I was at Pennfield Dragway Sept. 20 1971 when a 1970 GS ran and turned 12.21 in D/SA I believe and up until then a 70 Chevelle LS6 running B/SA turning 12.45 won top stock eliminator. The Chev had to give the GS a handi cap and needless to say the GS won quite easilly. So the next day i went into Lawson Motors and ordered the identical car and took delivery Oct 21 and was i a happy camper or what. I ran the car for 3 years in G/SA with a natioal record of 13.21 and i was running 13.51 so i didn't have much problem to win pure stock eliminator as the other cars in higher classes were turning around 14 sec. One day they had King of The Street and a 440 Mopar was running right on his record so i let my wife drive my car in the final and she turned 13.41 and won.Jane was 80 lbs lighter and mabey a better driver. I am in my 61 year of age and get a bigger rush than i did when i was 26 when the car was new. It is the best theropy anyone can imagine to drive a Buick , go down the track in the low 12's and be on this Buick site Bill Arseneau
Gary bought a 69 ? new and perhaps there are a few others on here. You guys that bought them back then and still have them are as rare as chicken lips. I saw maybe one GSX back when they were new in 1970 but at the time I could not afford to buy the wheels off one.
Bill, Now tell us how you really feel about driving the Buick!!! Never have I seen such enthusiasm. It's good for the soul alright. Rod
1970 Gs The 1970 i mentioned was owned by a fellow from Prince Edward Island named Bev Morrisey and he asked me if it was true about me seeing his car run 30 years ago and me buying one and of course i said yes it was. I asked him what he did to make the car run so well and he didn't know what it had as he ordered a Kenne Bell engine complete and installed it and after a couple of years he sold the car and never heard from it again. It was probably the only GS on the island. Later that year[72] i met Syd Varner from St. George N.B. with a 72 GSX which he still has and Bill Slater from Moncton with a 72 GS Stage 1 and he still has his. Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have around a million and a half people and i only know of about 8 Stage 1 s bought new here
