Hi all, I wanted to start this thread to share about the restoration of my car. I bought it in Detroit in April from a cool guy who had to get rid of her. Brought her home and have started to turn her into a driver. The 350 Sport Coupe was a cool looking car... similar to the Suncoupe (i really would like one) with the 1/2 vinyl roof and rally wheels. This car sports the 350 2 barrel combo. She is from Arizona and is super solid. I only dreamed of a solid car like this when I rebuilt a GTO 20 years ago. Here are some photos of her as she sits right now.
Air conditioning - I want to fully restore... I need a fan housing & radiator puke tank... check out the funky big block buick shroud on there now... Yes- the battery shelf/core support area is rusted out...
I have already rebuilt the column - the ignition plunger conected to the rod was busted.. I am still restoring the bumpers... elbow grease, wire brushing.. sourcing a tail light lens... When those are done i will wrap them up for storage and pull off the front clip.
I have been working on and off since my last post. I finished up the bumpers by polishing, wire brushing and painting the brackets. Then my son (7) and I pulled the front end off. My elbow has never been the same since.. what gives? Anyways, I put a lot of parts in my garage attic. Then we pulled the engine and trans.
Now that the engine is out, we have been degreasing, scraping, scraping, scraping.. 39 year old gaskets!! The engine has 65K on it. bores are nice, no ridges, gonna re-gasket it - there were major oil leaks.
Looks like a good solid car like you posted. Bumpers look to be in great condition. Little to no rust on the back sides. Is there any rust holes in the body at all ? From what I can see in the pics theres none. Congrads on a great find for your project. Post lots of pics.
You are right, no rust holes on the body, the only minor problems lie in the front and rear window channels. The car is from Arizona by way of Detroit. Now it is safe at home outside of Cleveland. No salt ever for this car.
Wow, It's been a while since I have posted any progress. Much has happened in the last few years. Engine is back in. Front end rebuilt. Brakes done. Gas tank cleaned out & refinished. Front and rear glass. Fat-Mat sound deadener. Front clip was media blasted. whole car has been epoxy sealed. My aim is to get her back on the road this summer. I will work on the body slowly over time, but just need to get driving.
