I wonder how you would know if its a true pace car, other than the VIN. Maybe the silver moulding on the b-pillars? :Do No: We need a pace car expert :Smarty:

Well I am far from a pace car expert, but I am a '76 century expertise now. Actually, it looks like a true one except for the primer, '76 century pace cars came with t-tops, floor shift automatics, and standard with a 350 CI motor, and the very unmistakeable rear spoiler. It's either a true car or a really darn good clone. And for a little under 3k, it's a heck of a grab. If I had the money I would definetly like to add this car with mine. :Brow: Hopefully whoever gets this car will restore it to original condition, these cars are rare and need to be in the right hands, not many left. 1200 known cars produced, and probably about 2 or 3 handfulls of them left.

I recall that the original 1976 Pace car had a 231 CI V6 turbo engine under the bonnet ? (First V6 engine in a pace car)
But maybe the models available to the general public could have the 350 ?

I just realize that the first turbo 231 V6 was introduced for model year 1978.... :Dou: [IMG]

Edit: I found production figures: 1290 Century Pace car replicas where produced for 1976.

The car in the eBay auction has a 2 barrel 350 engine, Frank Rex (below) says they had the 4 barrel 350 ?

The pictures are all dated 2002. Are they old pics or just the wrong date on the camera?

The true pace cars had the 231 V6 turbo, and they were not available to the public, the ones like for sale is a so called "replica" for the street and public, it had the 350 V8 standard, and I am unsure of the carb.

The seller says the pictures are recent and the camera is off time, but that's unknown.

On one of the before black pages it tells about these cars. Link:http://home.flash.net/~rjgeorge/76pace.htm

I am sure I saw this car on Ebay last year or the year before, with a western US address. The pics look the same, maybe they are just reusing the pics taken from then? I did some checking on it then, and all indications was it was the real deal, but the condition was not that great. It did sell on Ebay after multiple listings as I remember - maybe the new owner also realized finding parts for this car would not be very easy, and would be cost prohibative to continue....

he says it has a 2v....2 my knowledge they all came with 4v....motor could of been changed.....and notice the rims...they have been changed as well...

BUT ...EVERYTHING ELSE LOOKS LIKE PACE CAR 2 ME....the vin is not helpful as was told 2 me by another fella from ohio that has a nice one...

this seems 2 be a great candidate for a sort of easy resto....the hardest part would be the graphics .......if i had the time I would grab this one....

..myself i am in the process of selling mine....if i had it sold by now i would jump on this one

    btw...imagine it with a 455 ..400th ...posi....and no graphics.....just the grey :Smarty:

i have never seen this one before.....the one you guys are refering 2 ...i think had red interior ..which was all wrong.....

the seller says it needs a trunk....(maybe floor pans as well..many t-top cars leak.....) ..has some dents ..needs complete interior......

my guesse.....$5,000--$6,000 to get this car back 2 normal...(yourself..not farmed out..)..and thats not including the graphics..

    Re pacecar

I spoke with the man who owns this car. He purchased it on ebay last March in California. My nephew lives 35 mile from the car and he did a look see for me. Car is solid with the exception of minor floor work needed behind the front seats. Dash is good. My nephew said it was quiet and quite solid.
As for the point made that all pace cars ( replicas) had black interior is not true. I spoke to a man yesterday who purchased one new with red interior. The pace car option was available on the Century Custom Coupe. He has since sold it after he moved to Washington State. I remember the car when he had it new. I purchased one last year and had it redone. I had my cousin do the graphics in her sign shop as no one to my knowledge reproduces them. I also replaced the stainless over the roof. I had a local machine shop do it for me. What I put on was heavier than what I took off. I have the graphics and dimensions for the sail panel on disc. I also saw a pace car replica without the t-tops- red interior. These are much like others in the fact that the right person could order options for most anything.

Pweston.....the graphics your cousin makes...do they pass for original...and can she make them easily now that she has made a set...???

bcs i have at least 1/2 dozen people that have contacted me in the past about where 2 obtain from...and each case i tell them that they r on their own on that one...

I had the band made at Hetrick Manufacturing in New Kensington PA, not far from Pittsburgh. The cost to me which included design and manufacture was $400.00 Again it is heavier than what was removed but worked out very well. Let me know what you think and I can get their phone number for you and details of how we attached it and what we used for trim. You can email me direct. How do I get a picture up on this sight? I could show you what I have and how it looks.
