I think they were about 70k new. I also think the 95 front end hurts the value. Why would you do that? Maybe it got wrecked? that would be my guess, and I would ask. I would also ask if they have the original front end. If they don't, I am back to guessing it was wrecked, even if they say it wasn't.

But I am a very negative thinker, glass is always half empty, just ask my wife. :spank:

Okay, I couldn't resist the urge. I put in a bid on this one:

As much as I like the Buicks I still like the Corvettes too. The ZR1 is a really fun ride with the 6 speed trans. And judging by how the early ZR1 prices have seemed to collapse with the Z06 coming out, they are a real value now selling for less than the engine option did back then. With a chip and headers and the tires on the car, they really scream.

Much better choice, but of course the reserve hasn't been met yet. :ball:

But with the z06's so reasonably priced, will the ZR1 ever come back in value? And the damn motors cost more than the car is worth if you have to rebuild them!

How can an almost new ZR1 be a bad buy at under $25K if you can get it? The new Z06s are going for over $60K. I have a hard time thinking that the real nice ZR1s will ever get much lower than this. They were limited production cars, and it's hard to argue performance with top speed over 180MPH. I rarely could put my 95 SR1 into 6th because it would bog down below 80mph. These cars were built to go really fast, and they handle like they're on rails. Trust me, I had one before and sold it with 1900 miles on it, not even broken in yet or an oil change. Only reason I got rid of it was because I got transferred to Asia. If I can steal one back for a low price ten years later it would be tough to pass up.

I think $25k is probably a decent buy for this one. I am not comparing it to the new Z06's, but rather the older ones, 2001,etc. It seems like you can buy a real nice one of those for around $30k, and they are a better performing car than the 90/91 ZR1's.

    I got a client

who won the Marlboro one at the NY Car show in 1990. 1990 promotional car that is painted in colors of Marlboro box. He got a 1099 an end of year for $90,000ish!

    He's garaged it ever since.

I think he wants to unload it after seeing some BJ auctions recently and just asked me for a copy of the 1099 to help with provenance.

Friggin bikin clad girl he was checking out pointed to him to come over and he ran, she asked if he wanted to fill out an entry form for car, he did, and won the thing, unbelievable.

If he's selling it for $25K, I'm in. :bglasses:

    ZO6 v. ZR1

Since we are on this subject, where does the ZO6 rank v. the ZR1. Anybody know the different specs? Thanks!

    Funny you should say so

There was s time where he tried to sell and couldn't get $25,000 for it. First year model had alot of gremlins that went along with it.

I'll give him a call tomorrow and see if he still thinks 25 is ok or if he is expecting Barrett Jaclson type $s for it now.

    I'll post from work.

I think you're right. I've been doing some more comparisons today and actually didn't realize how much they'd improved the Vette over the years. Consider that (the C4, C5, C6 refer to generations. C1 was 53-62, C2 was 63-67, etc. Major body and suspension changes.):

C4 90-95 ZR1s ran the 5.7L LT5 engine at 375-405 HP Coupe only, targa top.
    C5 01-04 Z06 ran the 5.7L LS6 engine at 385-405 HP hard top only.
C6 05-07 Base cars run a 6.0L LS2 engine rated at 405 HP, targa top or conv.
    C6 06-07 Z06 runs a 7.0L LS7 engine rated at 505 HP in hard top only.

So bottom line here is that the C6 base cars are faster than the C4 ZR1, assuming their weight advantage and improved suspensions and equal HP. The new Z06s must really fly.

So maybe I need to hang on a little while longer until the 2005s depreciate a little bit more. The C6 looks like the way to go. The new C6 Z06 looks to be in the 11s with no mods at all. And a convertible 6spd with 405HP wouldn't be half bad either, would it.

I'd rather have the ZR1 honestly. The freak factor behind the Lotus designed and Mercury Marine built LT5 DOHC 350 its huge. I'd honestly love to have one of the motors and transmissions alone for some LSR efforts. Are you wanting speed or are you wanting a fast collectable?

I've often thought about just the LT5 engine in a different application. It is a beautiful piece of machinery, almost a piece of art. It may be absurd but I've thought about putting one into a boat. If the prices on the dog eared ZR1s get into the teens it may become a real option to get a heck of an engine.

I have a friend in UK that says he met some of the lotus guys. I transferred him there when I was based in UK and he stayed, I didn't. In fact, he's got a 92ZR1 that I got my company to pay to ship there for him and he's done some successful racing with it. I watched him beat a Callaway Corvette in about 1993 on a F1 circuit track. As far as I remember he had olnly upgraded his chip, put on a set of headers and some better tires. We drove back home and he had no brakes left in the car after the race, it was a harrowing experience.

He met the Lotus guys in Corvette circles over there. They claim there is a pile of prototype parts and blocks left over from the program. Maybe I should resurrect the subject with him again. It's been a few years since we last spoke about it.

He's holding on to it for the next Barret Jackson after Miami.

It was in last lot but the pics were misplaced or some kind of screwup prevented the listing even though a lot number was assigned.

They promised him a premium spot in Miami which he declined.

He's wanting some BJ money after sitting on it all these years.

500 miles on the clock, most from promotional drive with Philp Morris.

    Mike,
The 90-95's look GREAT!! I was tempted to buy a ZR-1 when I was shopping for a GMC Syclone. The dealership had 5 or 6 ZR-1's. None had more than 30K on the clocks. IMHO, MUCH better looking than the C-6's. I am sure just as much fun! :3gears:

I liked my 95ZR1. I've never sat or ridden in a C5 or C6 to compare but plan to do that. Unless I get the one I'm bidding on now in which case I won't want to know.

My 95 was red with black interior, but this one is red inside and out.
