Can someone please elaborate how easy/hard it it to replace an A/C compressor on a 1994 Ford Aerostar with the 3 Liter? Mine is locked up. Turn the A/C on and it squeals the belt. Thanks
If I were to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10, it would be an 8. The majority of the tech's that I worked with in the 20 plus years I spent in various Ford Lincoln-Mercury Parts Departments HATED doing A/C work on any Aerostar. A van with rear A/C was worse than one without it but... The biggest problem is access to the compressor. There isn't much at all even when you remove a lot of stuff to get at the unit. And there are some special tools that were almost always required to do some parts of the procedure. If it were my rig I'd have someone else do it.
Arg!! Looks like I won't have any cool air in my work truck this summer. Thanks for the info.:beers2:
A seized compressor means there's a lot of crap no flowing throughout your system(s)...more involved than just changing it. Plugged orifice, accumulator, entire system needs to be flushed out....not cheap anyway you go...Only good thing is it's a 94 which was designed and built to the new for 94 R-134a specs. O rings, hose materials, etc, were much improved...
