**DISCLAIMER** I'm no body man the only things I know is what people have told me and what info I found on the internet. Well after several unsucessful attempts to sell the car I decided that I would keep it and try to fix it. The car has been parked at a local body shop for about 6 months (no work being done). I'm good friends with the owner and told him I wanted to learn some stuff he says okay but whenever I want to work on it he's too busy. So, today I finally got my chance and I think I went a little overboard. . I have a long way to go, I didn't touch the front end because I have a GS front end that I'm going to put on sometime in the near future. I did find some rust issues take a look at the pics let me know what's the best course of action. Your comments and advice are welcome. I'll be updating this thread every chance I get to work on the car. Clicking on the pics will enlarge them

    Happy Sanding

Don't get discouraged, you're on the right track.

At this point it looks like you should take advantage of a heavy duty random orbital sander (8" dia or bigger) with a coarse grit, #80 or lower to get past the paint & filler.

The random orbital action is preferred over a standard fixed rotary disc because the orbital style prevents excesive heat buildup which can warp sheet metal.

Keep up with your reading & research. Once you have the bare steel exposed, roughed up and patched, you'll be etching the steel with diluted phosphoric acid, and applying primer (possibly an epoxy primer) depending on how much time and $$$ you want to put into the car.

based on the pictures and the amount of bondo and spot putty stay away from chemical strippers,,,,a 6" randaom orbit sander with 80grit paper will be fine...once all old paint is removed...finish sand with 180 then 220 anf applt an epoxy primer
