Oreillys has 2 different sockets listed for the front bumper parking/turn socket. One is a little longer than the other, both take 1157 bulbs. Do they wire up the same? I bought the longer one and installed it (because they only had the long one in stock). It fits fine. All the filiments are lit when parking lights are on though. So the blinker doesnt work.

I just replaced all of my taillamp sockets with new ones from Oreillys. They are some cheap peices of $#!+. They are allowing power to travel from the left side to right side and they have other issues. Now Im trying to find a decent used harness.

First, it's real easy to put an 1157 bulb in backwards. Check the pins on the base of the bulb and the slots in the socket for correct mating and alignment. Second, I just replaced a signal socket on my '71, it had a hot wire, a neutral wire and a ground wire. Did you get a 3 wire socket? Last and I should have said this first, make sure the bulb filaments are good.

I checked, the bulb wasnt in backwards, it cant go in backwardsunless I bust plastic putting it in. It is 3 wire. Black is wired to black (thats the wire coming from the side) On the car the other 2 wires are blue and brown. I tried both positions on the other 2 wires. Brown to blue- yellow to brown, and brown to brown -yellow to blue. One way lights up both filaments, the other way lights up none.

Here they are:

Try and clean a spot and direct ground the black wire from the socket. That way you will know if your ground is good. If it still has the same problem then look for a splice in your wiring.

Most likely you should do brown to brown. You can also just take a small jumper wire from the battery to brown on the socket with it grounded (black) it should light on the small element in the bulb. The brown from the car harness is your park lamps for either side. If you have a test light you can check the harness from the car to make sure you are getting power. Remember for the turn signal you must have the key on or you can use the emergency flashers to check the turn signal at this point. There are grounds from the harness one on each side that attach to the core support. You should see them on the engine side around the headlights.
Sometimes a tilt column can have broken wires but that would be my last solution.

I hope this helps

This sounds like my problem, maybe my stock brown harness wire is fubar'd.

A bad ground can cause both elements to light. Do not jump to conclusions, check it out..

Hi Jason.this is whats happening.you are not getting a ground for some reason.the sockets are about the best you can do nowdays cause most every supplier buys China junk.O'Reilly's is an interesting store with many good and different products.sooo.the Black is ground,The Brown are your running/tail lites. In the car the rear harness colors are Dk Green Right,Yellow Left,Lime Green Back up.Tan is your fuel sender.when you put in the sockets go Blk to ground, brown to brown and yellow to grn or yel.hope this helps.by the way a test lite is a very good friend.if you need more help feel free to call 231-468-2666.Bill

Its the front bulb not tail. The wires are connected. Perhaps I will need to ground the ground wire to the body. I havent had time to check it yet.

Hmmmmm....Maybe there are 2 different sockets listed because there were 2 different sized master cylinders for the blinker fluid in '72.......:Dou:
