The 200-4r "BRF" tranny that I recently purchased arrived today. :) It has the yellow tag riveted on the right rear of the housing. I believe this confirms that it is from an '87 & that a blue tag was for an '86. The tag has "BR F" in large letters at the top of the tag. The serial number on the bottom of that yellow tag reads as follows: "#049-872BRF 1438". Can anyone help decipher the serial number for me? I am assuming that the 1st part is a description for series/model & the 1438 may be the order it was built in. Am I close in my assumptions?

I have not pulled the torque converter off of the input shaft yet to double check that the D-5 stamping is there. It has a 3 position mounting location to the flexplate. I recall seeing a thread that mentioned a 6 hole mounting hole configuration on some, but I may be wrong on that fact. Does anyone know for sure?

If there is no slip yoke in the tailshaft, should the output splined shaft be able to move around or should it be rigid in the opening?

Thanks for your help to this gray beard newbie.

A TH350 yoke will fit perfectly, the play is normal without a yoke in there. You can find the D5 stamping without pulling the converter out, it's stamped around the entire circumference of the case.

Pull the pan and check the VB, with a 87 should be:

    BR3

BR1 and BR2 are still good.

I am using a BRF trans in my skylark. It is out of 1986 GN. Also if anybody knows why it leaks out if it sits more than a week I would like to know. I think the leak is in the front.

I had a th350 rebuilt that leaked like yours. The doehead mechanic left the front pump bolts loose.
