I'm going to say 8.80 @ 150mph. That's going to be one fun ride!

Here are a few more pictures as we were fitting one of the Nailheads into its new home. The Hilborn was not on yet, but it still looked good with the carbs.
Thanks to Tom T. we do not need an external starter:TU: .
Yes Tom it still works fine after many years. I think it was one of the first ones you sold. Thanks again for your efforts in the Nailhead community:beers2: . I will be in touch soon for one more part.
The cars onboard electrical power comes from a motorcycle battery. We will be using a battery cart to start the car at a central battery plug. The car will have a small radiator, remote mount waterpump, and fan. They will most likely will not be used unless needed. We will be doing most of our racing in the southwest so its up to the weather:Do No: .
Next weekend I will bring it to the scales to see what the final weight is.
I will post some more pictures in a few days.

Had a little time to finish up a few things on the car. Too much work- at work to have any free time for the car. We went to Speedworld on Saturday for a Standard 1320 race event. We did not run the car, it was for display while we wait for an input shaft for the trannie, should be here tomorrow:pray: . The picture below was taken by fellow S1320 member Hutch.

Well it's into the trailer in the morning and off to Bowling Green. Should get in Tuesday at the same time we leave Monday:pray: . We will run the car on the stock cleaned up set of heads to get a good baseline. Then we will switch over to the race heads and turn the high speed bypass on the Hilborn around.
Once we get things working the way we want we will start adding Nitro 5% at a time until we think it's enough:eek2: . I hope some people remember to bring their cameras:laugh: .
We look forward to seeing our friends soon.

I took a few pictures and made them into a GIF file. It's only 4 frames but it gets the point across!

Now that's cool, I'd like to see a longer one, running the 1/4 :TU: So how did the car run this weekend?

    Well,
If you had no other reason to enjoy the Nats (and there was plenty to enjoy), John and his rail were enough. I very much enjoyed meeting him and his wife, and he was very patient, if not enthusiastic in answering all questions from us onlookers, and showing off his new baby. He did everything but hand us cigars, haha. It is a very nifty machine, and pops nicely on nitro. He's even got me thinking of dusting off some of my speed parts and building a door slammer. Thanks John! Dan

Hey Alan! Cool pictures. Thanks for posting them. We got home this morning to AZ. It took two half days vs the one to get there!

We already know a few of the issues that we had...very minor. We'll have them fixed by the weekend. Who says a nailhead can't go past 8000?:shock:8% Nitro is enough motivation to keep her going. I looked at the tach expecting to see approaching 7000... and it was already at eight and still going!

I got off of it just before the 1/8 and coasted out at a 12.07 best quarter.
Ran out of air, tire, and gear... but you could tell she really wanted to go. The Pertronics could not handle the high rev so out it comes! Have not used the trans brake yet, launching around 1500 foot brake. Best 60 ft 1.38. Best 1/8th was a 6.8 at 96 and that was coasting. These runs were done with bone stock heads! The car's race weight is 1435.

Anyone have any night shots on Friday? I had a close up, but would like to see it from a spectators prospective. Any other picts would be great. My wife, Jenn, had her hands full at the line with me and couldn't get picts. :kodak:

It was great talking to everyone about the car/baby. A note to Craig- how late will the Speedworld event be running? If it's dark you'd be able to get to see the flames at night!

    Hi John,
Glad to see you got home safely. Did you do anything special to the mains and rods to get it to stay together at 8K? I am impressed. I have a cam, set of rods and JE high comp pistons that I was told came out of a 60's drag motor. The rods were welded up and down both sides, in an attempt to strengthen them, but I wonder if they ruined them. I haven't had the heart to toss them, but don't want to risk a good motor with them. Gates open the 7th at 7 PM. Runs start at 8 PM. So if you can make it, we should get some good night shots :TU: I just put a whole rear suspension from HRParts in the GS, I'm curious to see how well it leaves with that and the new slicks.

Dan the block was just built to handle a boost intake system. The engine was well balanced and thankfully turned out well.

Craig we will be there on the 7th. With the good heads and better gears/tires.
Also will have the new ignition system in.

Donut364 I think it would be a blast to run the 2 rails together:TU: .
I did make the drive spud adapter that is on the car. Now that I know it works, I will make a few more, with a more acurate mill.

Oh yeah! You bet Yacster! Injectors out the top and zoomies out of some REAL port holes in a riv! Sounds like Buick style to me!

How much Nitro do you think you (we) can get away with?
