No, I forgot about turning and braking, and not stock either:Dou: If I had a new GTO I would probably put a buick engine in it though:grin:

I don't think anyone is debating the lack of power in the GTO.
It has a motor and can run.

It look like hell is the problem.

If ugly cars with fast motors is all it takes to please you,
then so be it. to each his own.

No one is debating its lack of power. It just has no style.
I am sure everyone would have fa blast beating the piss out of one but it just doesn't have the hip style you want to see in the reflection of the car next to you.

They should of at least kept the Firebird n put that power plant into it. The 00 Firebird was as muscle as muscle gets in styling.
It could of had a 4 banger but it screamed power.

Yeah, 400 HP is enough if not more than enough to please someone. In my opinion, the looks are o.k., but could use a little more work. It isn't boring, the style is well, let me put it as bland. I would think that a 500 HP buick 350 would be nice in it, but thats just me. It would take more money to swap it etc etc than to build the motor almost:jd: The power is good, need to improve a little on the looks though:TU:

Here I thought part of the appeal of the original GTO was that it was quick (nearly as quick or quicker) than a Vette but costed 30% less? Yes GS's did not sell nearly as well because quite frankly they weren't advertised as much, or as well as the 60's GTO. Not to mention they were more expensive. So now 40 years later, the S/C Regal GS is dying/dead (bash it if you want but I enjoyed my 2000 very much) which was 28K, the GTO is of course a totally different car, but is ..40K and a Corvette is 45K. Meanwhile Chrysler Charger expected at 30K, Mustang Cobra expected at 30K. A retro Camaro may or may not come out, but if it does it will probably cost as much as a Vette. Meanwhile the econo boxers will get bigger turbos, better supension and before to long will be faster for 20-25K. Unfortunately I see the WRX and others as the modern equivalent of a GTO...a quick car that younger people can afford. The looks aren't for me, but I've driven them and they're impressive.:Do No:

But on the bright side, America doesn't build anything anymore anyways so in ten years our economy will be in the tank and we'll all be driving battery powered cars.:beer

Actually, they are selling them a lot cheaper than that to move them off the lot :Brow: Anyone out there going to admit that they were one of the ones that were paying the $5000 premium to buy one of these when they first came out

I just watched those videos. It's sure a heck of a lot easier to make a car quicker than to make it more intoxicating. I'd rather start with a car that's intoxicating than one that is quick. How can you love a car like the new GTO? I just don't see it. I stare at pictures of GSs all day long sometimes. I'd go crazy for one if all it had was a straight six in it. The new GTO is like looking at a desk lamp--not too exciting.

I've stared at the new Mustang for a few hours. The prototype is dreamy!

I'll never understand why women go ga-ga over Mustangs. any old clapped out P.O.S. as long as it's a Mustang. Maybe something to do with why they all want a horse, too.

I read in a sidebar in some car mag that a private company was working on producing body panels to bolt on the GTO to "better reflect it's styling heritage." I am guessing something similar to the retro 50-ford bolt-ons for the older T-birds?

Anybody know more about this project?

With the LS2 It'd be awful tempting, but the '05 Dodge Magnum kills it style-wise IMHO. Still a little down on HP though.

Is the Holden marketed as anything special in Aus? My guess is no, it's a contemporary car.

That being said, any radical styling chnages by GM means more tooling, and more cost. The bottom line is they imported the platform to deliver a RWD V8 sedan to the market without all the mfg costs. As others have said, it'd probably be alot more appreciated if it were marketed as a Holden, or even a Tempest, and not hyped as "the returning legend." The later HP upgrades could then have been sold as GTO once the market was comfortable with the basic car.

The price had better go LOWER! They can't even sell the 2004's.

Therefore no increase in the 2005 is no big deal. Even with the new stuff!

This car is such a dissapointment.

Pontiac COULD have made their GTO look better; all it takes is money. They had the Holden on the road already, though, and saved a carload of $$ importing it... If they had built a good looking car, like this one, we would all be happier.

The Mustangs are great bang for the buck. If you don't like the retro-styling, then check out a company that brought back a legend that continues to be progressive. The 350-Z has great handling, braking, and acceleration (even without a turbo). And it's beautiful! They are a little more expensive, but better things usually are.

Do you work in the Pontiac marketing department?

It will be blazingly fast in 2005 and handle great no doubt. My prediction is that it will also become collectible because I think it will be discontinued after 2005.
