Anyone else see the Monday Night Football launch commercial? It depicts a farmer building a race track through his cornfield and he fires up an '05 Mustang. Just when you think he's going to haul around the track and shadowy figure walks out of the corn and to the car. Steve McQueen then takes the wheel for a spin. A very fitting tribute to the man and machine :TU:

I loved it. Steve looked great for someone who's been dead since 1980. Amazing what technology can do.

There is a big write up on the car in my local paper. 300 horsepower, 325 torque, 5 spd auto or 6 spd stick.

The Washington Post car writer just raved about the car. I cut out the article and put it on my fridge. Maybe in a year or two.

    * "He died a shocking, early death at the age of fifty on November 7, 1980, after suffering from mesothelioma, a rare and painful form of lung cancer"

Just a correction on that lung cancer Dx. Although I am sure some sources erroneously reported he had lung cancer, experts in the field distinguish what he had from lung cancer. Mesothelioma attacks the pleura which a saran- wrap like lining around many body organs including the lungs. It is almost always associated with exposure to a special type of asbestos mineral with short straight fibers. Unlike lung cancer which may or may not be fatal, it is a terminal Dx usually sooner than later. No one knows where he got the exposure. It is speculated the wearings of fire suits, changing brake linings on motorcyles, or when he was in the Military Brigg in I recalll Charleston, SC during renovations.

I saw it on Sunday during the football games. Very cool!!! even though it is a FORD.

    You build it......they will come!!!

I wonder who else will come out of the cornfield to drive it?????

GM fan or not (and I am one ) Ford still owns this the residual and evolutionary segment of the muscle car market. They are getting it done with a well thought out combination of both power and styling. So far GM and Mercedes are eating Ford's dust in the sales department. If Lutz lives long enough and is permitted to do it, he will get GM back into the race. As sales reflect GM is not yet in the game. They have the power plant but need perhaps a new platform. Whoever says you cannot make sales with a reto-cued muscle car like the 60s Mustang is just mistaken. Ford is going to clean house with this new Stang. Awesome commercials too.

Jim, I agree!!! GM really dropped the ball when they dropped the "F body" and didn't do like Ford did and make something thats hot and would appeal the the muscle car market. I don't think the new GTO lives up to the badge!(almost bought a 64 GTO) :3gears: AL.

    I really like those commercials!!!

You have to give Ford credit for producing a car like the Mustang.

Just watching those commercials, makes you want to buy one.

What JimLore said----I think to some degree GM is screwed due to their multi-brand (Buick/Pontiac/Chevy)/single motor strategy. The Fords are Fords---good Ford motor in a classic themed Ford car. What does GM have? A bunch of platforms that might run a Chevy motor.....LOSS OF IDENTITY for those that care. Face it----each of the motors we have in these old musclecar brands has an identity built around it. Sure, they are all air pumps but they sound different, have different hp/torque curves (Buicks with their massive torque-at-a-lower-rpm than the other GM motors), etc.

GM's first shot at this has been an outright failure (unless it results in them learning anything)...the GTO with its body lines that look like a Chevy Cavalier and a Chevy motor.

Think back to the old days--people identified with a certain brand and style(yes, style GM!). That's what keeps these car shows/Pure Stock drags, etc interesting--the never ending variety. With GM now you can hear the commentators---"There goes Eddy Jones in his 2007 Buick GS...ole Eddy is running a ...a....354 LS whatever Chevy motor in that Buick. Next up to the line is Larry Smith in his 2006 GTO, Larry's car really runs fine with its....well...you know.. .Chevy LS-whatever motor". Variety and competition between the truly different brands is what keeps it interesting to some degree. Granted, these motors are technical/performance wonders but the factors that differentiate the brands are long gone at GM. Patton

I have some friends with kids about high school to college age. Ask them what is their dream auto. I am astonished at how many say Mustang.

With the way the new Mustang looks I don't doubt it...they truly caught enough of the old lines to make this thing look right. I'll tell you what will be ABSOLUTELY AMAZING----it's the aftermarket possibilities. I guarantee you these aftermarket (mainly on the aesthetic/cosmetic side) guys are foaming at the mouth. Thinks of the possibilities with louvres and pedestal spoilers(ala' Boss 302), hoods with various old style hood scoops, side vent scoops (like the Shelby Mustangs), trick flat black paint inserts for the hoods and tailight panel--in a variety of choices, and restyled front ends (bumper covers, etc) to give them an even more aggressive look. Ford has created a platform for massive customization/personalization by each owner. Now think of the interior appointments......hmmm. What would really be trick is some wide Mini-lite style wheels (like the George Folmer Trans-Am series cars ran)!!!! How about the wheelwell flares to go with it.

Ford, I think, left this somewhat "open" on purpose---they know the aftermarket will step up to the plate and deliver--thus creating more buzz out there. They look nice as is but wait til those kids start seeing these things show up at school with the latest aftermarket/retro parts....the pressure to buy one will be unbelievable then.

I'll bet they have unleashed a monster. Better go buy every copy of "Bullit" you can get your hands on because every teenager out there will be looking for it. The Steve MacQueen look is back (whatever that is)....he was a normal looking guy which might be good these days. Patton

I programmed the robots that build the new stang and I can honestly say here were no corners cut on this car. It is built right from every aspect and is selling like crazy. the boys in Flatrock, Mi are gonna be working some OT.
