If you have not had the chance, you have to come out and see the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show http://mcacn.com/ The Pure Stock Drags will once again be represented with a 12 car display we had a great time last year, hope to see you there !
Great line up. Nice cross section of the PSMCDR attendees I will be there for sure!!!!! Ryan PS: Drop by and say hi at the Chevrolet L89 Display. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/584372/1
That is a great array of cars. We got a lot of traffic last year for sure. I will have mine in the 50th Ann. for GTO display but I will be over to say hello....and hopefully play with the Christmas Tree :Brow: Jody
Donny, I can't help but notice the first person you listed for the display, Ted Harbit. Here is a picture and short blurb on Ted... ...in the November 1962 issue of Hot Rod magazine. Yes that's none other than OUR Ted Harbit!! There he was winning in NHRA with his Studebaker back in 1962 and here he is today, 2014, representing PSMCDR, still with a Studebaker. I respectfully call him a National Treasure and he blushes every time I do but I mean it sincerely. You will not meet a tougher competitor than Ted and yet he remains a gentleman's gentleman. I don't know if there is a nicer person competing in the sport today than Ted. Every time I compete against him it is an honor. Congratulations to you Ted. No one is more deserving of the honor than you. :beers2: Most Respectfully, Thomas PS, Hot Rod has the car is listed incorrectly as a '54. It is of course a '51.
I wanna know how Ted got a 54 Studebaker to look like a 51? He had a little V8 powered time machine maybe. Yah, I know. It's really a 1951 and the proof readers were sipping Jack in their coffee that day, like they always do...... :Brow:
this will be cool to see: http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/...n-largest-ever-display-of-indy-500-pace-cars/
:gp: That's right, John. Thanks for the correction. And, yes; that is the very car Ted kept all those years and turned into a Studebaker V8-powered bracket racer after his NHRA stock classes went away. It was demolished in a terrible accident at The Muncie Dragway May 9, 2009, an accident that put Ted in the hospital for six days and which he would probably have not survived had a professionally-installed roll cage not been in the car, and his being secured with a full harness for his wild ride. That car's remains are today in Ted's large building on his property near Summitville IN and are a horrific sight to see. BTDT several times! BP
Here's one of the last photos of Ted Harbit (and his wife, Mary Ann) taken before the car's tragic demise, courtesy of photographer Jack Bleil of Mentor OH. Jack was the Official Track Photographer at The Presque Isle Timing Association Drag Strip in Wattsburg [Erie] Pennstylvania in the early 1960s. (Yes, this is the same car as the one in the Hot Rod article cited above): Jack took the above photo at the 50th Annual NHRA National Drags in September 2004 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. There, Ted and The Chicken Hawk were part of a special display of what NHRA identified as "The Golden 50" drag race cars from the first 50 years of NHRA Drag Racing. (Donny Brass: I hope you don't mind this slight diversion in your topic, since it was brought up; I thought the above would be of interest. Thank you for organizing the PSMCDR display at the 2014 MCACN.) :TU: :TU: BP
We are looking forward to the show, as always! Ed George is going to have two Stude Avantis at the show (obviously not in the PSMCDR display), and another one of our good friends is bringing his '64 Stude Daytona that was a factory test car ran at Bonneville AND a Hot Rod magazine test car. As an open invitation, we have reservations for 40 people at Gino's East on Saturday night at 7:30 pm. If you want some great Chicago deep dish pizza, all are welcome to join. We did this last year and had a great time. The Gino's is 1.2 miles from the convention center, we usually taxi over there and back since it's only a few bucks, but you can also drive easily, as they have parking. Let me know if you're interested in joining us, we have an approximate count, but we can increase our reservation and go for the full out party room if the numbers increase some more. See you all in a few weeks!
I received my move in packet today and I'm curious which day others plan to arrive on, Thursday or Friday. At first I thought about arriving Thursday but I'd still have to be there on Friday to "set up" So I'm thinking about arriving early Friday instead. What thoughts do others have? Bob
I plan to be there Thursday, sometime around the time they open. Either day works, but if you are coming Thursday, let me know. Donny
I'm going Thursday to help Mr. Brass. Not sure exactly when I'll be there. It all depends on what trailer I'm using.
Look for a Plum Crazy 1970 Coronet R/T factory Hemi 4 speed car from Manitoba in the Hemi car display. If it's there, ask the owner, Chris, for the back story. I guarantee you'll be interested in hearing it. I saw that car in person last fall, and it's gorgeous!! The owner did a magnificent restoration on it. There's a 25% chance I just might show up, since I'm on vacation that week, with no particular place to go.
