The Regal has a 2 plug connector (3 wire) for the oil sender, brown - tan - lt blue... for the oil light. The Regal 231 oil sender has the same threads as the 73 350 oil sender. Could I install a 231 sender into the 350 and just plug it in? Why wouldn't it work? It would be the same thing as the 231. I'm trying to remember why the oil sender on the 231 has 2 connectors / 3 wires. I know the power lead for the choke is run through the oil pressure switch. Is it tied into other things? or is it only 2 functions... oil pressure light and power to choke? I don't want to use a aftermarket oil pressure gauge. I am putting in a temp gauge and tach into the factory dash, there is no room for a oil gauge. I would like to use the cars factory oil light.
Doesn't the 231 sender kill the engine with no pressure? I installed a press guage into a tee off the block, mounted it under the hood. So I can see what's really going on AND still have the light as backup. I used copper tubing vice the plastic line.
It could, but maybe not how your thinking. There are only 3 wires. It's a 2 prong connector, 2 terminal switch. Brown - tan - lt blue. I think power comes into the switch, once you have oil pressure it is allowed to pass through. The lt blue wire feeds on return and powers the choke. If you lose oil pressure or the switch goes bad, power won't go to the choke. The car would still run normally during cold start, but once it warms up it wouldn't run right because the choke would stay on at all times, because the air horn flap would be partially closed, causing a rich condition. If the choke pull-off was bad, the car wouldn't run at all, would be flooded, because the air horn flap would never open at all.
