Anyone used 245/60's on a 14''x6'' ralley wheel? Is it safe to run that tire on that rim? Any clearance issues? I've been using 235/60's for a while without any probs, just wondering if I can move up another size.

  2. I think you're pushing the limits on that 14x6 rim when you go to 245's. I had been thinking about that change too, but I know I read in some earlier discussions about the subject that you may start to have safety issues at that width.

    tires & rims

go to the bf goodrich site and search for tires & appropriate rims widths . for 245R60 , u will need 7" rim ! i have 6" rims & run 225R70 which is the max . otherwise u will destroy the bead ring of the tire in no time . i worked at bfg right out of university in 1969 .
by the way , gm was buying f70X14" glass belted oe tires from bfg for $8.00 cdn ! retail was $40.00 .

Yep.....245's are too wide for the 6" rim. I've had 235-60R-14 Goodyears on my 14x6 rallys for years....never a problem, although they did tell me I was at the limits for a 6" rim.

  5. I also have 235's on my 14x6 rims, and no apparent problems, with maybe 1/3 of the tread remaining.

Years ago I put 245/60/r14 BFG radial T/A's on my 14 x 6 wheels on my 68 GTO. Never had any problems, it looks fine, not too sucked in at the bead. I say it is fine, but a 235 is really a better fit. I am ready for new tires on it now and i plan to put 225 redlines on. The car is all stock original and I plan to go more the resto look this time around.

  7. I would guess that how a person drives is a big factor as to whether or not you can get away with 245's. Lot's of hard cornering might cause problems, or excessive heavy application of the right foot on the gas while traveling in a straight line :Brow:

Thanks guys. I think I'll stay away from the 245's to be safe. Is there anyone who makes a tire that will give me the 235 width but in a 70 series?
