..... was my first "Pure Stock" race at what was then called the Musclecar Nationals, after the Supercar Showdown. Way back then, my heap went 14.24. I have decided that for my own 25th yr. in the Pure Stock realm I'm gonna try to get the 'ole Charger back to a 14.24 without buying million dollar parts. I'm gonna use whatever is on the shelf. I'm going old school. I think I'm gonna do some trading like I did when I was in my teens to get parts that I need. If I don't have it, I'm gonna trade for it. I have a self-inflicted goal of making it happen without spending ANY money. And the engine and trans are NOT coming out. When I was in high school, I worked at a grocery store. The 383 in the Charger was the first engine that I had ever seen apart. I had ZERO CASH !! The engine is .030/.020 on the crank ( less bearing speed ...) The piston skirts are collapsed and it has a .005 over ring pack from the '80's that didn't even need to be gapped because the bore was so sloppy. I couldn't afford anything else, and that is the way it sits today. It has a 3.23 in it now, but I need to trade up to a 3.91 like I ran it in '87. It LOVES a .91 !! I put a 4.10 in it, and it fell on it's face. Anyone have a 3.91 ring and pinion USED that I can trade for ? Carrier doesn't matter, I've got them and Sure Grips ... just need a decent R&P. I just traded some NOS Chevy stuff for (4) remarkably COOL NOS parts for my Charger. Easier and simpler times for me.............
Keep us updated on your progress. I wish I had just run with what I had on several things with my car. I have overspent by a large margin. Hoping it lives up to my expectations once completed. Had I been more patient and frugal, I would be driving it by now. ou:
