Hello all, I need a set of 3.64 gears for my GS. Fab craft metal works is looking for a few more orders to make a production run. If anyone can use a set please call 1-800-208-8242 and place an order. Thanks in advance for your help!

Aren't the Fab Craft 3.64 gears designed to fit the 3.23 - 3.42 carrier?

Yes,but they are currently out of stock, and there isn’t a definite date as to when or if they will make another run. I have a set,but I am concerned that if I sell these,am I going to get another set? Last time they did a run,I bought 2 sets of 3:42’s and 2 sets of 3:64’s. I used both sets of 3:42’s and one of the 3:64’s,keeping one set for myself. I recently acquired another set of 3:42’s,but I still need 3:64’s for myself.
It is not real easy to have those gears made, and I understand why they wait to do another production run,if they do one at all.

I asked because the OP mentioned he has a non-AC car, which would have the 3.64 and up carrier. I think the Fab Craft ring gear would need to be machined to fit that carrier, wouldn't it?

    Jim,
You are correct. The original GM 3:64’s used a different carrier, but the FabCraft 3:64’s use the same one as the 3:23,3:42. I believe he only has the bare housing, but correct code,so he will get a new posi unit for the gears.

Thanks for the clarification. I've been keeping my eyes open for a good original 3.64 and up carrier. I have an NOS 3.91:1 ring and pinion that I would like to use, but don't necessarily want to install them in one of my original 3.64 housings/carriers.

Does anyone know the cost of these offhand? I don't know that I need a set but might buy them since they don't make them very often.

I have a 3:42 carrier which should work if I am reading this post right since they are manufactured to fit that carrier. But I would have to have these new gears modified to fit the original unit with the 3:64 carrier in my 70 car, right?

Correct. The 3.64 gear set offered by Fab Craft is designed with a thicker ring gear, so fits the 3.23-3.42 carrier.

Remember Brad and I hashed this out and did this because we knew the old carriers were dying and we did not want to make a gear that would be useless with out a carrier. SO we made it fit a live carrier being built and on into the future. That was the reasoning... AND even if you have to machine a bit off the back of the ring it was still doable.

I would have done the same thing. Keep it simple.
