Will an aluminum 4-barrel intake manifold from a 1964 300
fit on a 1966-67 340 engine ? If it will, and the correct
Carter AFB carburetor can be found, can the throttle linkage
and the A/T kickdown switch be modified to fit the AFB ?

No, the 300 intakes will not fit the 340 due to higher deck and wider space between the heads. Also, the aluminium intake/heads have different water jacket passages and exhaust bypass openings than the cast iron 300, so it gets difficult. However....

There are some enterpising individuals (mostly in NZ and Oz) who've developed adaptors for the 300 to take 215 parts, mainly to take advantage of high performance Rover intakes/FI, etc. They may have done a 300-340 kit as well. IMHO, not worth the hassle.

If you've got a four bbl 340 intake, you can probably gain as much by port/polish and a new Carter AFB/Edlebrock Performer. The carb linkage bits are different between the 2 and 4 barrel, but can be made to work or fabricated.

    Hi to all,
According to the buick books that I have read, the 340ci is a stroked version of the 300. In my service manual for 1966 buicks the only difference I can see is that the 340 has a longer stroke, there is no mention in my buick workshop manual about a different block, so where does the taller block? thang come into it.
I know the earlier 215 was smaller but I was under the impression that the 300ci and the 340ci shared the same block and the only difference was the internal length of the stroke, any info would be much appreciated, thanks, Louis

The 340 requires a wider manifold than the 300.

There have been many postings on various Buick boards from 300 owners wanting to bolt on a 340 manifold - it won't fit

    .

I just joined the group. I just picked up a Buick 300 and am looking for a 340.

Do you guys know what YEAR and MODEL Buicks these engines came in?

What would be a fair price for a core and a runner?

Is my 300 worth anything as a core?

Is there a good book that lists buick 300/340 block, heads, etc casting numbers?

    Any response would be great.
